OP talks about how to keep the recurring credits by paying off EIP, which is true, but I have no experience with trading the phone away before the credits are done.
I have confirmed 100 times above that once you pay off the existing EIP, the credits will move to the account level and you can start a new EIP/credits on the SAME line !
See below,
I paid off my iPhone-12 fully from Feb month promo (P1), got it unlocked as well, then just started this new iPhone-12 mini promo (P6) on the same line and both show up just fine !
And yes, if you need the device unlocked then you need to use those devices as well, at least leave the SIM inside for a few days (if not 40 days) with the device turned on otherwise they refuse to unlock !
In other words, you can NOT keep the device unopened in the drawer and then ask for unlock after 40 days !

Existing T-Mobile or Sprint customers on an older data-limited plan will be upgraded to unlimited data for free. Not a plan change, just an unlimited data add-on"
It's still unclear to me. So if I have a limited data plan, then all my lines will be upgraded to unlimited automatically? I don't have to do anything?

I am now at around 40+ GB Used on my simple choice 2gb line and still getting high speed data. Also if your phone is 5G enabled you will get 5G and LTE both unlimited very sweet 😊.
The thief doesn't care or know BEFORE stealing your phone if it's locked or unlocked ;-)
And once he steals it and realizes that it's locked, he ain't returning it back to you, he will find out a way to unlock it or sell it as is i.e. locked !

Btw, is the change permanent or only time will tell? Is there an official link for this "promo"?
