I have this 16" version. I say it's good for anything below "heavy duty", which is one step below "commercial" in my book. That being said, that's all I'm comfortable with handling as well. I have cut up multiple small/medium trees in one charge (new chain), which is plenty for my uses.

However, the 18" version has double the RPM and has much improved performance over the 16". If I were buying new today, I would opt for that model as I would consider that closer to "heavy duty".
Chaps are safety pants used when running chainsaws. They have material in them that quickly binds a chain and chokes down a gas saw, usually before it gets to your leg. With an electric, the torque of the electric motor overcomes the binding which allows the chain to continue spinning ... right into your leg.

I have the Dewalt 20 volt 14 inch chainsaw, and I find it great for pruning and light cutting. But is this one actually a good replacement for a 30-40cc gas chainsaw?

Depends on how much you'll be using it.

Checking reviews on these they're good for cutting down 15" diameter trees all day. For a typical home user that far exceed most needs.

I literally just ordered an Oregon bar 18" 15a for $99 on Amazon last night. Then this popped up. I canceled that order in favor of this.

This will add nicely to my ego string trimmer and leaf blower.

Was just looking at a 5 ah battery yesterday. Got a "free" chainsaw and a discount on the battery with this deal. Also used a coupon and some gift cards. Amazon's batteries are $220-$250 depending on which generation you get. Thanks a lot!

No, the newer 18" ego is close to a 32cc and probably the most powerful battery chainsaw. The 16" is fine as well but not as fast as gas

Thank you for the feedback.

Could you provide an opinion on the ego in the deal vs the Oregon CS1500 corded for $99?

I have a few dogwood trees to cut down with the largest being 13" diameter.

Edit: Dogwood is actually a very dense wood, I was thinking birch when you said dogwood. I still think with a sharp chain it will do the job but it might be a little tougher.

I can't speak to anything corded but dogwood is soft wood and 13" isn't much, I'm sure the EGO will do the job.

I've been waiting for this deal for a while. I just recently borrowed the ego 16" from a relative that has been using it for over a year. It is incredible for battery operated. At this price you can't go wrong. Ego makes great products and batteries for a good price. Just make sure you always have at least 2 batteries. I jumped on the last deal for the trimmer, handheld blower, battery and charger. The chainsaw completes my set and now I have 2 batteries for continuous operation. Use one while the other charges.

Maybe I've missed it, but the dang 18" version never goes on sale... Been waiting for over a year. And if I remember correctly back when home depot had it, it used to be $10 or $20 cheaper. The wait continues.
