Bought this last year from Costco at this price. It solved the problem of having my wonderful speakers disappear and making my wife happy. It's not like having my old home theater setup, but it makes watching tv tolerable again over built in speakers.

My problem with it is that every few weeks for no reason the hdmi connection from my Samsung tv randomly stops sending audio to the sound bar and it's a stupid process to reset audio settings on the tv and my Roku to make sound come out of the sound bar again. Literally nothing changes and it randomly takes a dump. In fact, happened last night when it was working 2 hours before. For $300 from Costco it's worth it but on man when it craps out it's annoying.
BOUGHT!!! Damn... wife is gonna kill me...
way too many problems reported for this model.

I agree with Problems of the system.
Problems:
1.Software is the worst.Does not recognize wifi if it is a 2.4/5Ghz combo.
2.Pairing is a rocket science.Bluetooth or Wifi no difference.
3.Sound turns off when videos on youtube are changed (and commercials appear)
Solutions:
1.Turn off Cec like users said. But then you will have to use the tv and sound bar remotes separately.Basically it's like an optical with Atmos.

2.Good thing Atmos works.
Verified with Atmos demo videos on dolby channel.

3.When sound is off, Change inputs on vizio remote to hdmi arc.
(Even though it shows hdmi arc in notification and sound is off.Do the same,i.e. change input to hdmi arc from hdmi arc.)The light changes on sound bar should be an indicator.3 and 4 lights from top.

4.The above should resolve the problem of restarting systems.Hope this helps.
5.The app (when it works)-- change the atmos ear level settings to minus settings. It will fool the sound bar and upfire atmos sounds.

Are you controlling the sound with the shield remote?
Yes, that is correct. It works fine.

I bought these from a previous deal from Costco. They are great whey they work, but there are a lot of problems with these. I had to reset them many times in order for my HDMI-ARC to be recognized. Also the software that you use to controll them is crap.
I wish I could return them but i have them for about 6 months now. They used to work great in the beginning.
They sound pretty good, though (when they work).
Have you tried contacting Vizio for a replacement or Costco for a refund? I've had problems with a Vizio TV from Costco and the Costco support process really helped make it easy to work with Vizio. And I think Costco will take sound bars back past the 30 days that electronics are excluded for.

There's no time limit on sound bar. Speakers are not part of the electronic short return window

I returned the 5.1.2 after about a year because of all the issues and replaced it with this. This one does not have issues for me

I have 36" and a 42" Vizio sound bar. The 36" sometimes turns off and the 42" never does.
Not worth the trouble to exchange as we just turn it back on.

A wiseman once said it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Wonder what happened to that guy.

HDMI arc is an issue with these units. If you can manage to have a stable connection then it's a great unit.

Does anyone know if you can mount the rear speakers to a stand? If so, any recommendations on sturdy but inexpensive stands for carpet?

I had this .. this was $289 at one point. It works nicely , very very glitchy app though. And very narrow sound stage. All being said this would be perfect for a bedroom on a 50-65in tv.. anything bigger and in a larger living room or theatre room environment the sound stage is too narrow IMO. The rears are very small but are excellent. It took me awhile to calibrate it especially bc the app is so glitchy... ultimately I took it back even at $289 when I bought it year ago or so.

I never had issues with devices turning on/off randomly but I do have a Vizio p series 65 and 75in tv.

Also the sub is only ok it's small and plenty powerful but creates some muddling.

This model has too many issues. People should just buy a pair of genuinely good bookshelf speakers at this price e.g. Edifiers

Yeah, I love this unit when it works, but the bugs are annoying. I keep hoping a firmware might fix it. I ended up putting it on a 'smart switch' because hard rebooting the unit usually fix any of the issues I have. I also wish it had real DTS:X, but not $600 more wish I had the DTSX unit lol

I have the rears on regular metal speakers stands, no issues mounting. They cost me $20 on offerup.
