PSA: For those in states where you're considering enrolling in the utility program to save money on the thermostat, make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions on those programs. For my state and local utility (and I assume other states and utility companies) the pricing model changes, in some cases drastically, by introducing different levels of peak pricing and sometimes even direct control over your thermostat. Whether it can save you money in the long-term is possible, but just be sure you fully understand what the program entails before jumping in with both feet.

Did they fix the problem with the 'C' wire? I know earlier Nests had a problem there. I changed out my A/C unit and got a Lyric T6 from Honeywell that works well wirelessly.

Just FYI, as seen in Texas... Supposedly these smart thermostats can be adjusted remotely by your electrical company, I imagine thats true for everywhere. So just keep in mind that smart devices like these are never 'free'. You're trading your data. Welcome to the boring dystopia lol.

The thermostat pictured is cheaper than the Nest E and the Older Nest thermostat but you lose a lot of features. I bought this for a vacation rental and you can't set limits on temperature settings on this version. I am going to replace this with an Ecobee so I can lock upper and lower limits for temperature settings. There are some other features that are missing but that's the main feature I wanted a smart thermostat.

It's not supposed, ERCOT contracts with a company called EnergyHub--that company adjusted the thermostats of residents without their knowledge recently. Of course, they had their permission via the terms of service these customers agreed to when they took advantage of a free/reduced cost smart thermostat offer. At the very least I think people should buy their smart thermostat outright at the best price you can find, and still make sure to read the EULA's and TOS's that you encounter during setup--make sure you're not opting in to something you don't want to---certainly not third-party remote control of your home's environment.

Anyone with PG&E (North CA) is unable to register new account on homeenergyrewards.com? It's saying

"Unfortunately, you are not eligible for the Home Energy Rewards program at this time.
Please check other offerings available at www.pge.com/saveenergy and www.pge.com/rebates"

I have SAID and both electric/gas services, not sure what's the problem.
