Get a Nest Thermostat for $0 (Up to $129 off!) by using this hack.
If you've ever considered getting a Smart Thermostat and haven't yet due to price or other considerations, now is the time! Nest is running a $30 off promotion for Earth Day, which is great in and of itself - but more likely than not your local utility also has instant rebates on smart thermostats, which can bring the cost down as low as $0 upfront (yes - free!) plus shipping and handling and without any strings attached. I found one for my local utility last week and then did some digging and there are a ton of these!

Below are some of the national utilities that I found are currently selling smart Thermostats online and stacking their incentives with the manufacturer to drop the price to anywhere from $0 to $49! I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I found over the weekend.

There are 61 utilities within 30 states!

Step One - Find your state
Step Two - Find your utility
Step Three - Click on the link
Step Four - Purchase your thermostat (Nest, ecobee, emerson, honeywell, etc.)
Step Five - Save energy, save money, save the Earth!

Sometimes, its a real mixed bag and depends on your equipemnt it may work perfectly forever and sometimes it will work for a few days or most of a year and then suddenly low battery issues or it getting into a non stop loop turning the system on and off trying to charge itself but its pretty easy to add a power adapter if that ends up happening.
    06-30-2021 at 07:50 PM
You need to buy this accessory for 2 wire systems and then it will work

It will work, but needs the power accessory

There is a self guided compatibility check one can do to see if that suits to your HVAC https://store.google.com/us/widget/compatibility/thermostat?hl=en-US&GoogleNest
    04-12-2021 at 01:19 PM
You might also look into the Wirecutter's recommendation for baseboard heaters - https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/the-best-thermostat/#electric-baseboard-pick-mysa-smart-thermostat

That Mysa device is compatible with IFTTT and other automation systems, so if you're technically inclined you could set up centralized control across multiple devices (Mysa for heat / Nest for AC)

PSA: For those in states where you're considering enrolling in the utility program to save money on the thermostat, make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions on those programs. For my state and local utility (and I assume other states and utility companies) the pricing model changes, in some cases drastically, by introducing different levels of peak pricing and sometimes even direct control over your thermostat. Whether it can save you money in the long-term is possible, but just be sure you fully understand what the program entails before jumping in with both feet.

Ohio duke energy doesn't work. They discontinued that in September, but thanks op for the list the energy federation one seems to work

edit: the energy federation one requires you to have an account with one of their energy providers so it didn't work for me, nor will it work if you are in any of the big cities of Ohio
