Just a random comment related to this.. I wasn't expecting to be impressed by the string trimmer.. but I was impressed by the string trimmer. Coming from a curved shaft echo and a straight shaft brute of a husqvarna.. the milwaukee kicked some ass on her maiden voyage.

10/10 would buy again. I've used it once.

I've watched it bounce between the $6xx price to $4xx price for about a year now. This is a good deal compared to the regular price if somebody already has the batteries and charger, and needs all or most of the attachments, but warm-ish for everybody else.

I jumped on the $299 for the string trimmer + hedge trimmer attachment deal that came with a rapid charger and 8.0 Ah battery (https://slickdeals.net/f/14950253-milwaukee-m18-string-trimmer-hedge-trimmer-8-0ah-battery-charger-299-99) because I primarily needed those two attachments, and need more batteries anyway (I heard these outdoor tools eat up battery power like no tomorrow). I'll have to sell the charger (or it isn't a big deal to have a spare) and that's easier that selling off attachments, IMO.

The string trimmer + edger attachment version of the same $299 deal made it to the FP too (https://slickdeals.net/f/14945429-milwaukee-m18-fuel-18v-string-trimmer-w-edger-attachment-8-0ah-battery-303-more-free-shipping).

Milwuakee might be pushing harder on promotions for their outdoor power equipment (OPE) now that summer is rolling around.

Great starter set: if you don't have these tools or are wanting to get into the milwaukee tool line. Well worth the price if you need these.

They have this on sale too. Not as good of a deal but if you don't want the hassle of selling things it's still a sale.

I purchased the string trimmer and the edger. Initially I was very impressed with them last season. I just broke the trimmer out for the first time this season, on a 50 degree day and both of my 9ah batteries repeatedly overheated and stopped working after a few minutes of use (worth noting I only used low speed). Super frustrating. Glad I never sold my echo gas trimmer. Fired up after a few pulls even with stale gas.

Anyone else experience the constant overheating with their quiklok stuff?

Is Quik-Lok universal mount? Are the attachment parts compatible with Ryobi, Toro, Ego, Dewalt machines?

9ah not really ideal I think. Those are HD batteries, making them 18650 packs. The 8ah HO pack is 21700 cells and better suited for outdoor tools (same guts as the 12.0 with 1 less row of batt cells).

Did your quicklok set come with 9.0s? I know the batteries are universal (I mean that's the point of m18 right?), but some tools work better with the right battery.

Also might want to check to see if those 9.0s are still under warranty. I've got a feeling they're older, 'overheating' early is a clear sign.
