Get them while you can.... My understanding is that Sony's new upper-tier models X95J & X90J are actually a step down from the previous year.

Any source for that perception?

It's not a perception but a fact.
I used to be in the electronic business. It is common knowledge that Samsung & to a lesser degree Sony have been systematically downgrading their TVs picture quality. Every newer model has the latest and greatest cutting edge "Bells & Whistles" but with a diminished picture quality.

1) Samsung's KS9000 was an excellent TV...... every model that followed it has been a downgrade in picture quality. There's huge difference in the Q60FN & the Q60A. [rtings.com]
Same Deal with Sony's X900F.

I have last years identical version, the 950G. Overall a very solid mix of PQ, features, and quality (no concerns about panel lottery from Visio, etc). Sub $2k is about the lowest I've seen this, so not a bad price here especially considering the lack of tv deals due to shortages.

Didn't mean "perception" in a derogatory way. You said "my understanding" which, to me, sounds like you have knowledge built from secondhand sources, rather than actual hands-on tests.

Still, thanks for the links. I do appreciate them.

Agreed. Was watching some videos online and saw some comparisons between last-gen X1 ultimate processor processing vs this new XR one and they really need to work out the kinks. With current inflated tech market prices, just pulled the trigger on a Sony 75 x950h and saved $1200 over MSRP. Since the new Sony TVs are not mini-led, I would skip this year and maybe wait for LG QNED 90 mini-LED TV coming next month.

YMMV- I brought 75" one 2 days back from Costco located at Baxter, MN for 1199+tax. The store still might have few left. Please call and check before you drive down to the store.
