Yes. You run the game on a PC or laptop for everyone to see, then everyone who's playing goes to jackbox.tv on a phone or tablet to play. You can even share your screen through Discord if you want to play with people remotely -- my friends and I have had dozens of game nights during lockdown this way.

No. It's been around for a long time. It's also really nothing like CAH.

If you're under the impression that cards against humanity was the first words-based party game ever created.

I installed the game and it tells me to get on my phone and play it on their app. Is that really how this is supposed to work?

A Cards Against Humanity knockoff with free-form answers instead of cards? Sure.

Closer to Game of Things [amazon.com] or maybe even old-school Balderdash [amazon.com].

Kind of, it's not an app. It is their website and can be accessed from most any device that can support a web browser. Everyone that can see the main screen (the PC game) privately connects via their device to a Jackbox game website using a room code that the game provides. A lobby for for your play with the the created room code. It's a simple way of of creating a party game where everyone can have their own interactive Interface. As long as you see the main display and have an interneted connected device in your hands, you can play. So you don't have to be in the same room, for example, a Zoom call with everyone would work.

Finally, using this setup removes the complexity of trying to set up everyone on a local network to play. Nor do they have to take turns over the same keyboard. Of course, the internet is required. Nevertheless, Jackbox has many fun games that can be played this way.

Played this the other evening - friends had on their PS4 via Jackbox Party Pack; it had other games also included. Better than sitting around a table with game cards as you HAVE to use your phone; therefore, your other players can't be distracted by their PHONE during the game. Really a lot of fun too... simply wish I was more witty Smilie

The game's wittiness reflects the other people you're playing with, since they are essentially writing the cards themselves.

I've played with one group, and it was boring and predictable, and then I've played with another group who were hilarious and raunchy.
