You can't currently enter Japan as a tourist. If you have a reason to be there (not sure criteria) you are still subject to very strict two week quarantine. I doubt foreign visitors will be allowed in the country this year based on how slow the vaccine rollout has been there and now a major uptick in cases in the country.

However, I am really tempted to roll the dice for Feb or Mar of next year. Perhaps that is enough time for them to work out a proper scheme to welcome gaijin.
You'd have to be really optimistic or a moron to buy non-refundable international tickets to anywhere right now.
Phenomenal deal with caveats. Beware if you're going for vacation - you are hedging your bets on whether or not they are allowing tourists access by then. Hopefully they will with vaccination.

Current rules in Japan: foreign nationals will be turned away if you are there for tourism/travel. https://www.japan.travel/en/coronavirus/ https://www.insidekyoto.com/can-i...-japan-now

This is a great deal, but like many have said it's a risk weather or not you'll be able to actually enter the country upon arrival.

Even if you're allowed in there will most likely be around a 2 week quarantine even if you're vaccinated. You might end up paying more for food and lodging. Not to mention God forbid you catch COVID. You might have to end up paying hospital bills and have to stay longer than intended.

Also the situation is constantly changing, even if you're clear you might not be able return to the US if the variants cause another wave.

For me under normal circumstances I'd totally jump on this deal. However I think this is a situation where airlines are getting desperate. They're unfortunately bleeding out lost potential income because of the pandemic. They're taking a big loss with this deal. They're banking on people thinking it's cheap and buying, then it's too late to cancel and get a refund if they can use it. Even for those that do end up traveling they're going to have to purchase a return flight unless they want to be stuck at the airport until their return trip.

I guess if you have the extra cash then go for it. As for me I cannot waste that much amount of money for the chance of a cheap flight.
well they don't have change fees anymore. Worst case, you can schedule it later and just pay the fare difference. So on one hand, you can get a really sweet deal to go japan. On the other, you prepay a portion of it for a japan trip

I remember in March last year I almost got in on that crazy deal on Air Canada Seattle to Australia $350/round-trip. That was for February of 2021. I was sure by February things were going to be back to normal. I was really upset when they pulled the deal literally as I was trying to complete the booking.

Boy was I happy this February I didn't have that ticket to fight over with Air Canada.

Lesson learned. We don't know what we don't know. Those that are willing to roll the dice... Good luck.

I rolled the dice... there was $200-$240 flights from PHL, ABE (Bethlehem), and EWR (Newark) today. There were nonstop flights from EWR/ABE (ABE's connecting flight is a bus-ride to EWR lol... these dates worked best so i got these... wonder if i can skip the bus-ride and just show up at EWR?).
I booked March 5 to 18th for $240. Keeping my fingers crossed thats in time for some cherry blossoms. Heard they were early this year.

I called to ask to use my 2020 voucher on this flight... and they said no though hehe.
Said it was a pricing mistake and i was lucky to have that, so they won't cancel the flight but won't let me use a voucher to get my cost to $0 hehe.

It's typically one year from the original ticket purchase date to complete subsequent trip, unless they extend that due to Covid.

"Do I have to choose a new flight right away?
No. If you cancel your flight and don't choose a new one right away, you'll get a flight credit that you can use up to one year from your original ticket issue date."

I managed to place a 7 day farelock on PHX to Tokyo (which also had a similar discount) Thursday night. As the $254 price is low enough to use the credit for a domestic trip, I will likely pay for the fare right before the farelock expires.

If conditions don't appear to improve 3 months from travel, I will then cancel it and use the credit for domestic travel before the end of April 2022.

I reserved a flight for March 2022 yesterday morning. I haven't received a cancellation but a peer who purchased tix yesterday afternoon just received a warning of a potential cancellation.

Has anyone else received a warranting of a potential cancellation?

With no change fee, you could potentially change it to a year later(2023).. and then if travel is still down, change that ticket to another year later(2024). It should work right?

based on what's going on with the pandemic globally right now, how many people think that Japan will be open to tourists in March 2022?

I read another forum that United wouldn't honor the $250
Price, gave an option to purchase the fare for $2500 or cancellation. Did you purchase United?
