As mentioned in the thread, RAM can fail, and typically you could replace it yourself without issue, but this makes RAM failure a catastrophic event as the entire motherboard would need replacing.
Really bad choice by Dell/Alienware, I'd expect better from them on a high-end device.
I sat through chat to get an answer. If you're going for the 144hz screen, don't pay the extra $30. They're the same screen. I have a feeling they messed up the configuration because I don't see the Lunar Light option to pick which usually is that same $30.
If anyone can share if they know whether or not the 144hz version has any form of Optimus or at the very least a Mux switch? I don't care for the extra hertz or whatever but I had an R3 M15 that had the most pitiful battery life because it only ever ran off the GPU. Also, unlike HP, Dell's shipping estimates are actually conservative. I've bought an R12 desktop and that R3 M15 I mentioned in the last few weeks and they both arrived almost a week earlier.
Mobiletechreview mentions that the 144hz DOES indeed have Optimus so battery life should be solid. It won't be on the G15/G14 levels, obviously, but useable should you need it.

I went for the 144hz. It's not my main computer so I value the battery life bump and more importantly the price savings

This one is silly, and needless, though. We've had memory slots in laptops since the beginning, why remove them??
