Nice (not great) deal on Makita'a Ultra Sub-Compact drill and impact driver. I was able to get this for 137 a few months ago by using the free battery hack, but this is a nice deal for anyone not wanting to wait to save another 10-13 dollars.

Tempting, but be aware there's a new subcompact kit coming out soon.

The new subcompact is exactly the same as the old subcompact except exactly 1/16th of an inch smaller. The weight is the same. RPM is identical, max torque is identical, top IPM is maybe 200 more on the new one, both have the assist mode. They are advertising it as 8% smaller than the model it is replacing, but they are saying it is replacing the XFD11 which it 100% is not. It is way more expensive than the XDT15 though..

Unless the XDT18ZB is being made in Japan, which I highly doubt, I'm not sure what purpose it serves. It is identical to the last subcompact. I don't know anything about the new subcompact drill, but I doubt it is any better than the old one.

For this price, I'd buy this kit all day. I actually might buy it anyway for the batteries and to put into storage as a backup for my current subcompact set which I have abused all to hell and they still keep grinding along happy as the day I got them.

Own this set. It is a beast for the size.

Two story drop onto concrete left the smallest scuff mark on it. It is also a beast for toughness.

As someone who has a lot of the makita subcompact kits as their daily go to. These tools are great. It's rare that you actually need to step up to using the big boys every day. There are some jobs that require the big boys but most jobs can be easily done with these subcompact

These compacts do not seem lighter than their compact counterparts?

I was at the top of a ladder installing LED lights in my shop and dropped my subcompact drill from 12 feet up directly on concrete chuck first and other than needing to wrench the chuck back open with pliers to release the bit, it has worked flawlessly since. Amazing how beefy such a small driver is.

I have the big boy impact and the monster hammer drill and still use the subcompact for essentially everything. The only time I subbed in the bigger impact was driving 4" lags when building some workbenches and even then the only reason I switched from the subcompact was because I just wanted to drive them faster. The subcompact impact handled them just fine.

Only complaint I have is a sticky chuck on the subcompact drill, but that might be because I dropped it chuck first on concrete from 12 feet up as mentioned above. Still works perfectly, just a little sticky.

It isn't as much weight as physical size. The subcompact is EASILY the most ergonomic tool I have ever used and I have an entire shop full of very nice tools. The grip on the subcompact is thin and fits beautifully in even large sized hands. I can wield the thing for hours a day with no problem, the larger compact versions are very ergonomic as well, but their weight is shifted ever so slightly up which I don't like quite as much.

These are great tools. I have owned this set for 3 years and they have done everything I tried. I bought the 1/2' monster impact that was posted last month for heavy work. So many free LXT 5a batteries last month with the 40v max XGT battery system expanding.

... or for anyone who doesn't venture into the ethical gray area of "hackable" deals.
