FYI, I bought the Hero 9 and returned it.

A few months ago, two friends and I purchased Hero 9s to use during canyon runs and city driving. All three of us were disappointed to learn that most of our clips were cut short and the cameras had shut off due to heat issues.

A quick search of "Hero 9 heat" will show you loads of owners complaining about the same thing. Thermal throttling kicks in and shuts the camera off to protect it. Some owners resort to attaching actual heatsinks to the camera, which is crazy.

Now, I would totally understand (but would still be disappointed) if the camera couldn't handle 80, 90, or even 100* weather. BUT, we were using the cams on a cloudy Los Angeles day, highs being ~65*F back in February. Customer service let me know that I can "point a fan at the Hero to cool the camera" to improve performance. No thanks.

I've had prior Heros, but returned this and will wait for future iterations that can address these issues. Thankfully, their CS is easy to deal with and fully refunded the camera cost and the 1-year subscription.

*Edit: GoPro says that heat issues may be caused by incompatible memory cards, but we confirmed that all three of our SD cards were on GoPro's "approved list."
Returned mine a few weeks ago for same reason, overheating. This things gets hot to the touch. How can so many support such a product. As some reviews stated if the camera shuts off what's the point of having it.
Also folks should remember that next version (GoPro 10?) will likely release in September following their yearly release cycle. Considering that you could get the camera at $350 (with subscription) right after it release in 2020, I would certainly recommend to wait.

FWIW, I own two GoPro 9 and it's love/hate relationship. I love the picture quality and the colors (out of the box, I don't edit/color correct). Also horizon leveling and hypersmooth have been excellent. It's my favorite camera for videos.

It used to be very buggy for a few months after release, with frequent shutdowns where I lost some of my videos. Really frustrating. They appear to have fixed most issues with recent firmware updates. Haven't had random shutdowns for a while.

Haven't hit any major overheating issues yet. I've ran it for hours on my chesty harness or with a magnetic mount on the hood of my truck. It was fall/winter/spring time though, so maybe summer climate will stress it out more.

If you really need a GoPro right now, this is a great deal. If you are looking to upgrade from your current one, I would wait until fall.

BTW, I have Sony FDR-100V, DJI Osmo Action, DJI Osmo Pocket (and Pocket 2). I still prefer quality/colors out of GoPro 9. Everyone has their own preferences though.

Overheating while recording in 4k has been a fairly universal problem for me since gopro 6. I mainly use these for FPV drone flying so it doesn't effect me much but I did kill my 6 trying to record in 4k with the cam mounted on the dash of a car I was in. My experience with overheating has been just not understanding the limits of the camera. If it's 100 degrees out and ur in the blaring sun I think any camera is going to have it's problems. With that being said I've had at least 15 gopros of various gens between 6 and 9 including some session 4s and 5 that I still actually have and use. They all get hot. If you are losing video I have to say it's no fault but that of your own. I can pretty much tell when these cams start warming up that I just need to let them rest for a bit before using them again.

The unfortunate reality is that there really is no alternative and everyone loves the look gopro footage so unless u don't care about that I wouldn't stray away from buying this due to "overheating issues" cause ur never gonna get that gopro look with any other cam out there....

With that being said I love my gopro 9 I'm buying a second, and probably a third with this deal.

I will second the heat issue. I bought mine with their 2020 special, $350 w/ 1 one year subscription. I didn't like the camera's interface or handling, but the image was fantastic and I kept it. Mine shut off and overheated, using an approved memory card.

I filmed in doors around 60-80 *F, maybe in 10 minute segments at the longest. I was not a fan of the camera already and this sealed the deal to return. Very easy return, though!

Don't see an offer in my amex account - does it mean I am out of luck? Any comments on underwater use or this model? Seems like a protective case is out of stock

I've seen some deals in Hero 7 Black bundles. Anyone had good experiences with that line?

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...undle.html [bhphotovideo.com]
I had the same issue with my hero 7. GoPro claimed "bad memory" but I had used 3 different "approved" SD cards and the issue never disappeared. Also, it has freezing issue as well.
(Low resolution recording has the same issue too)
Unfortunately, when I knew this issue, my return period was over and GoPro offered me discount coupon. WTH.. not recommend GoPro.

I had the issue with the Hero 8, was down in Florida late last year in June and would over heat. Crazy how unbelievable hot it got, I had the water proof case on it so it seemed even worse. Returned it to Costco and never looked back.

This is the same deal as with Chase and the Bank of America cards cash back and has been around for the last month or so.
I could not find this deal via Chase Freedom - a different card perhaps? Could you link the deal please?

Would not buy this for $50. What good is a camera if it just shuts off due to heat.

I'm only seeing $399. How did it go to $349?

The $349 is not the bundle package. Title is okay but OP description should remove the word "bundle".

Can you guys confirm if the action bundle still goes down to 299 (plus subscription) when added to cart (as this deal states and other threads as well). It only goes down to 349 (plus subscription) on mine.

The black with free batteryabd memory card goes down to 299 on my end.
