Make this yourself: 1 part borax, 3 parts sugar, slowly add water until honey like in consistency, place near ant issue. you can make tons of it for pennies.

Ants are either in sweet or protein cycle and forage for it. You can't tell which one they will go for without trying. That's why often exterminators set up both baits at the same time.
Also spray the perimeter of your dwelling.
That said, terro may work fine for minor infestations provided they are foraging for sweet

I HATE ants. They got in my house one year and we were fighting ants all summer long. Sometimes they liked the Terro stuff a lot of times they didnt. For me the best solution was a peanut butter Borax mixture. The best thing to do is at the beginning of summer before they have a chance to increase substantially in numbers put some bait out. Even only if you see just one or two. I ha e been able to keep them under control that way.

Every spring we get ants coming into our house. I have a small bottle of this stuff and put a few drops on a small piece of paper. Minutes later there are a dozen ants on it. I put more drops on it after an hour, more ants. But the next morning, no ants!

Don't keep it too long on the shelf....loses its effectiveness after a year or so. Use it as prevention . I put some outside too on near patio door and near windows even though it says mostly indoors before even seeing ants come inside house.
