15% discount? I like half price closeouts
It is a poor headphone amp for 99.5% of headphones. If most people are buying it for that then most are buying the wrong thing.

It has LOTs of power, like you said, but also LOTS of noise relative to good $100-$150 headphone amps and a high likelihood of channel imbalance. The recent Audioscience Review test
[audiosciencereview.com] shows distortion at .012%, Noise at 78dB below signal, and about .5dB L/R channel difference at 5W (likely higher at headphone volumes).
By comparison the $99 Schiit Heresy has .0007% distortion, Noise 103dB below signal, no channel imbalance...and PLENTY of power for 99.5% of all headphones. Plus, the Heresy has an external gain switch, so you do not have to open the chassis anytime you want to switch between high/low sensitivity headphones.
agreed. Not much of a discount for a discontinued model

ABSOLUTELY!! And the four HDMI 2.1 inputs supporting 8K/60 are remarkable at this price point!

Wait, what are we talking about again?Confused

I own one of these and I really like it. I use it on desk and It drives my ELAC Debut B6s and lots of my headphones great. For those spec-meausring the headphone amp part, you need to understand what sound it's going after. They state in the manual that it's supposed to sound like a vintage amp (hence the higher distortion numbers) and I can attest that it's sounds a lot more like my Darkvoice tube amp or my vintage Technics amp than my THX 789.

It also works great for planars and high impedance dynamics, which is mainly what I drive with it (full power jumpers NOT installed). The higher noise floor isn't audible with any of my 10 planars and I get a tubey sound with them, which is great because tube amps typically don't work well with low impedance planars.

So if you want a super clean, analytical sound, this amp is not for you. There are TONS of super clean headphones out there to choose from if that's what you want. But if you want something that sounds tubey and different, especially for planars, this is a great amp.

Can someone answer a quick question for me...

I'm trying to learn and put together a (somewhat) decent entry level home theater and enjoy listening to headphones.

I've read alot about "sound" regarding this unit.... but is it also an amp or does it have to be paired with a AVR?

I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 650's and only had the opportunity to use them by way of my cell (Samsung Note 20 Ultra).

They don't get loud enough in terms of volume. Would this be able to help with that?

Again, new to all of this... wondering what exactly this does as opposed to let's say plugging in my 'phones directly to my (yet unpurchased) AVR.

Thanks for helping!

For home theater experience, you need a receiver, I personally like denon for audissey calibration capabilities (and for beginners it has a good walk through visual instalation gujde built in). But many will swear by Yamaha. At any rate I doubt there's much difference. I would buy a receiver with at lease 7.1 channels for adding atmos speakers if you ever feel like it. This amp doesn't help much (or at all) if you just want a nice entry level HT. Other than that just get some decent speakers and you're set.

Nice! Been rocking one of these for years as a headphone amp for my HiFiMan HE-500s! Looks like theyre discontinuing it? I wonder why.
Dont need this for HE500. You are good with Schiit Magni. If only you have HE6SE, then it is worthy of consideration.

Oh, and I don't have much advice to give on headphones, but receivers always have decent headphone jacks. TBH a lot of the talk you've seen here seem to be comming more from audiophiles or specs fans (no offense intended). If you want entry level or even a little over it, you won't need much.

I use this with a Schiit Modi for a set of Emotiva B1+ bookshelves and also use it with my Hifiman Sundaras. It works very well for both. I do not have the jumpers installed, these headphones don't need THAT much power. It's extremely convenient to be able to power my desktop speakers, then just plug in headphones and all my audio switches over without having to swap outputs on the PC, etc. Just plug and play. It also seems to be underrated for power (or maybe everything else I've got is overrated), but it can blow me out of the house with the B1+.

Fair warning - it's large. It's about 14" deep by 9" wide, so make sure you've got room for it somewhere before you buy. This price is solid - these never go on sale.

I second this.
My Aiyima A07 blows away the Yamaha and Onkyo ~$1000 class A/B receivers I've had over the years, for stereo. (Which the receivers have been, and still are, great for surround, DTS/Dolby etc)

With the basic 32v PSU it came with I'm currently driving some old Bose 701s in the garage that can be heard down the street, very low distortion.

Small size, fanless, no heat.
A lot of Watts and low noise/THD for the $

Coupled with their tube preamplifier, the sound really comes out - and provides Bluetooth 5.0
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QNPX...UTF8&psc=1

Also looks like 5% and 6% off respectively.

You could definitely find better and/or cheaper TPA3255 boards/amps out there, but you may be waiting weeks/months on shipping.

Also can upgrade opamps, capacitors/filters, but unless you have incredibly sensitive hearing, I recommend starting with something like this Aiyima - and even then, probably won't disappoint.

My next upgrade will be PSU, but likely that's just going to end up pissing off the wife, the neighbors, and get the cops called...
What pay do you have?

Solid amps at a decent price. This is the same price they closed out the Fusion Flex way back in 2015 or so - so pretty solid that similar amp specs are the same price 6 years years later. I still use 2 Fusion Flex amps and wish Emotiva still sold something with that flexibility.

Interesting. I think for that price however Id prefer to go with the SVS Prime Wireless SoundBase.
The SVS is a nice unit, but the biggest complaint is the lack of a dedicated remote.

EDIT: not sure if this Emotiva has one either, LOL. The Fusion Flex I bought on CL came with a very basic remote so I figured this would have one as well.

Fist bump on that. I found one on Craigslist a couple years ago for a good price in great condition. FF is almost the same amp but it has 2 inputs. Yeah, too bad they no longer have that.

Are you planning to mount the filter on the A-100 fan?

15% discount? I like half price closeouts
Don't pay any attention to % off. Lots of products have over inflated MSRPs just so they can offer 50% deals all the time. It's like half price sushi all the time. It means nothing.

Sometimes 15% off is a huge deal. Like with Apple products. No idea if this is a good deal, but if you know of a better price feel free to post it.

I got a few of these a while ago. Seems to make a difference. It might be all in my head though.
