Anyone interested, don't even bother with Chia. You need at least 1000TB of storage to even have a chance, and that chance is dropping every day
You are forgetting about the controller on every SSD which is essentially a CPU and the other part is that Taiwan is having a massive drought which is leading to a water shortage. Highly purified water is one of the needs to semiconductor manufacturing. Everything together is causing prices to go up. I know a number of server manufacturers who have either raised prices on DRAM already or will shortly. I know this is not NAND but it all is related in this market.
Just saw this and was going to post. It's not quite as low as it has been in the past, but jumped on it for more game storage. Lowest price around $80 if I recall back last year, but prices are slowly increasing.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB nvme ssd I bought three years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer on 1-2TB SSDs kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 4-8TB.

Not going to happen with the current chip shortage and potential Chia crypto.

How is this compared to Samsung Evo in terms of read/write speeds and longevity?
Not technically but in reality. I'm looking to upgrade HDD on my 8 year old Sony Vaio that has i7 and 8gb ram. Any inputs on this SSD compared to EVO is appreciated.

I concur, it's beyond pointless at this point unless you have access to hundreds of TB free storage for farming..., not to mention ram and fast nvme drives to do the plotting.

I have 15TB spare, a Samsung Pro spare, quad core i7 and 16GB RAM. I'll try it but I wouldn't say it's a great investment.

Chip shortage is for CPUs, GPUs and other complex custom chips not for easily printable DRAM and NAND. These three have the capacity to print DRAM and NAND as easily as toilet paper but just choose not to. This keeps their average selling prices high and line their pockets as well pump up the bottom line for their shareholders at the consumers expense.

Which is technically fine for them to choose to do, as long as there's no collusion involved. But I certainly wouldn't bet against that being what's keeping prices elevated
