Good deal on these. They have the less than desirable 1.3 AH batteries with them but if you are in the trade you probably have bigger batteries anyway, and if you are a homeowner the 1.3 AH will suffice for most projects easily.

Wish they had those sales where you could select the 2nd tool, as I don't really need an impact driver

If you want to save $15 and drop the actual cost to $144, there is Newegg deal on Lowe's gift cards.... $45 for $50 gift card. Limit 3. Must act fast as the Newegg deal is for only 1 day or until sold out. I bought 3 and going to use it on this deal.

Update: The newegg deal was dead but it is alive again.

I bought the Makita subcompact combo like above, which comes with two 2AH batteries for 149 from Home Depot, however, it comes and goes in and out of stock

UPDATE: The newegg deal is DEAD now.
It seems to come and go. I purchased 3 like a minute ago. Thanks for the info, by the way Smilie

What is the difference between the drill in this deal and the atomic drill?

I just got the Atomic version (DCD708) and it's smaller (6.3 vs 7.52 front to back) and slightly lighter (0.2lbs) and slower top speed (1650 vs 1750) than this drill. Power is about the same. Overall, I am OK with the drill but disappointed with the batteries (1.3ah). I ran a fully charged battery out in less than 30 mins of sporadic driving screws and drilling 3x2s. Also, I triggered the clutch in low speed (high torque) at 15 setting when screwing a 3/8" bit into a 3x2. It's good that it comes with 2 batteries and they charge fairly quickly (~1hr). Even as a DIYer, if you do intermediate/major home improvements, I would invest in larger batteries/stronger drill.

Pretty much identical when just comparing the drill/driver. Atomic is a smidge smaller and has a little bit different design. This drill is really small too. I bought this DeWalt Lowe's deal today. Crazy how small the DeWalt drill is compared to my Craftsman 19.2 C3 lithium drill. I thought that Craftsman was quite small. I posted the Home Depot $159 deal as well but I really wanted the impact driver. I already have an expensive powerful corded Bosch oscillating multi-tool too. Hammer drill feature would have been nice but I don't really drill masonry.

Now I got a DeWalt 12V Max cordless screwdriver gun, DeWalt 20V Max impact driver and 20V DeWalt drill/driver. The charger can charge both battery packs as well so I can see myself use the screwdriver gun more often now as I got 3 different gun tools right there. The screwdriver gun was very handy when I was doing lot of electrical work in my garage recently.

Too high b/c of tax. A fake coupon will suffice, though.

The DCD709 [dewalt.com] Atomic drill with the oscillating tool deal is also a hammer drill that makes it much more versatile, while also having a two speed gearbox this OP DCD777 [dewalt.com] does not.

We bought two of the DCD709 hammer drills before Christmas and like them a lot over this OP DCD777. On the other hand, the tried and true DCF787 impact driver with this OP is one of the better impacts on the market... I think we bought our first one five years or so ago to replace the prior brushed DCF885 that are still working on job sites everywhere.

Most of the time, you can do the same thing with the clutch action on the drill as an impact driver, which in my opinion, makes the 2 speed Atomic DCD709 drill/driver in the other deal with the oscillating tool more versatile for the homeowner.... if you need to drill masonry, you also have the hammer drill mode.

i kinda want that kit because it gets me a cheap hammer drill for the rare time i need it. but how much better is the XR oscillator to the Atomic?

We have both.... the Atomic oscillator has a variable speed trigger, a little more compact and also brushless, The XR is fine, but that 3 speed transmission button (that is seldom moved), gets full of crap, like when working with drywall and I don't see any difference in cutting speed.

I like the kit with the DCD709 Atomic drill/driver for the hammer mode; more versatile. Maybe you should stop by a box store that has the 709 drill and pick it up... I deal with a lot of tools and that little drill just feels like quality.... kind of heavy for it's compact size, solid and well balanced. But, that does not mean you will like it...

The good tool in this OP is the DCF787 impact that having been in production for years, I can usually find a deal on. Not sure what the DCD777 drill brings when selling, but I might consider both kits and sell what I did not need/want. The DCD777C2 [lowes.com] as a kit on sale is $100 that leaves $60 for the DCF787 impact bare tool.
