Just the one
ANSWER: The MB8600 is a cable modem bridge that normally only connects to one device, such as a router, computer, HDTV, game station, or other device. We built the product with four Ethernet ports ONLY for two situations that don't apply to most customers, namely Port Bonding and Multiple Assigned IP addresses
Yep, it's just screwed to the bottom using a torx screw.
It's a modem not a router

Meh. I'd probably jump on this as I've been looking to upgrade my Internet speed and my old Surfboard 6141 just won't cut it, but I get "offer unavailable".

Edit: Something got FUBARed with my RedCard. I had to go through the entire setup process for it again. After which it shows I've been a member for over a year. This deal is still showing unavailable for me though. Maybe it will show up later.

This isn't exactly inspiring confidence in Target as a reputable place to be doing financial transactions with.

Edit2: Just did the Staples deal instead. Less than $2 difference, and less hassle.

"One open and 3 masked 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) LAN ports allow connection of any SINGLE device with an Ethernet port including a router, Windows/Mac computer, HDTV, game station. The multiple Ethernet ports are not for connecting multiple devices; they allow connection to a router that can bond more than one Ethernet port to achieve speeds over 1Gbps when supported by your cable service."

So are there 4 usable ports or practically only 1 which connects to a wireless router?
Hope following link is useful for the other ports used

Not much of a deal. Bought this last year in April for 160 from Amazon.
Now 150 on amazon.

It is a great modem and delivers a 1.2 gig speed connection on Xfinity. Multi ports in the back under the yellow tab for bridging multiple connections for higher combined speed.

After years of problems and dropouts with the surfboard for 3.1 on concast, I switched to this and it has been solid. You can also remove the cover to get 4 ports which can be bonded. I speedtest at nearly 1400mbps using this bonded on 2 ports connected to a 10gb switch. Still miserable 40mbps upload though.

Which is better? sb8200 has 3gb of ram vs 512 on the sb8600.

I've had this since I upgraded to Gigabit Internet w/ Comcast/Xfinity and it's been amazing. Outside of power outages (that sustained longer than my Cyberpower UPS could handle), I've never had to reboot or unplug it.

Bought a used SB6190 from Amazon for $30.86 shipped. It's capable of doing 600Mbps down(real speed). With current 400Mb promo plan from Xfinity, I'm a happy camper.

Im going to get a lot of hate for this post but I think its important for people to know this. This only applies to Xfinity users and mainly ones with gig tier of service.

If you are in the above category and not already doing so, do yourself a favor and rent the XB-7T from them. They even give you unlimited data as part of the rental in most areas now, but most importantly it is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem/router with Wifi 6, 1 2.5gb port and 3 1gig ports.

I got mine at release so the prices are cheaper now but a router with those capabilities was about 3-400 bucks then and still easily 200 now. And thats on top of the modem cost.

With all of that and a $20 2.5gb NIC from amazon I currently get between 1400 and 1500mbps consistently.

And if/when I spill a drink on the damn thing I just get another for free. And I can get the newest model to replace it when that comes out. (Granted it takes a lot of calling and they are pains in the ass, it beats paying 400 bucks every few years to get the same thing).

Everyone's situation is different but its hard to imagine anyone has a logical reason other than stubbornness to not just rent these days.

Bring on the hate, and call me a shill. Personally I feel like the free upgrade is my way of saying fark you to their bad customer service.

Edit: Do not get the XB-7A! It has a puma chipset and at least half of them end up with the stuttering issue. XB-7T Is the one you want!

Too bad it has only 1 ethernet port
This is a modem not a modem/router combo. You need to add a router if you want to connect to multiple devices.

The extra ports covered under the sticker is for future proof purpose. Motorola may enable those ports to allow faster internet connection to your ISP. It's not for connecting to your own devices.

having owned both, i prefer the sb8600. the biggest thing is the sb8200 gets hot and degrades very fast. the sb8600 stays very cool and last a lot longer. plus if your putting it in a rack or someplace with little ventilation, the sb8600 last longer.

other maybe useless facts:
i have gone trough a lot of surfboard modems cause that's all we could get, even the one's the cable company provided. but since i got the sb8600 when new, i haven't had any issues and it's been going 3 years strong.

This is a great modem, I picked it up a few months ago with a Target 10% off coupon. I have ports 1-2 aggregated and linked to an Edgerouter 4. From what I've read online, people who have link aggregation enabled on the SB8200 or Netgear CM1000/1100/1200 need daily reboots. If you have a 1 GigE network that supports link aggregation, the MB8600 is the clear winner. On Xfinity's Gigabit (now officially 1200Mbps) plan, you can theoretically see real world speeds of 1400Mbps in aggregate with over-provisioning. Most consumer hardware does not support this, and even with all the right hardware, you will never see a single client exceed 940Mbps. Link aggregation allows multiple simultaneous streams, but it does not split a single client's Ethernet frames between the links. It allows multiple clients to share more bandwidth, increases redundancy, and reliability. I can speed test to 850 Mbps over WiFi on my phone and simultaneously see 500 Mbps on my laptop's wired connection.

For most people who are not particularly tech savvy and don't want to learn how to configure a network to support link aggregation, I would probably recommend a MB8611, which has a single 2.5G Ethernet port. Retail is $169.99 and you can pick it up for $20 off with the current Staples coupon, or trade in any crappy old router or modem for a 15% off coupon at BestBuy any day of the week. This will be more future-proof, because it can connect to any router with a 2.5 GigE port and theoretically offer a single client up to 2.5G speeds.
