Trying to research which Staub item and color is now made in China and which is still made in France is just too much effort... especially for seconds. On Amazon, if made in France, that is usually posted towards the top, while if made in China, that is typically not mentioned.... they know it matters to the consumer when paying a premium for presumed quality. We buy Lodge made in the USA and not the enameled Lodge that is also outsourced to China that is openly posted on their website.
Swilling is also made in China, but some are now made in Vietnam.

Arguably, you do have a "problem paying for quality." .... most of us do because we may not realize we are like frogs in increasing hot water as our fiat currencies continuously devalue in purchasing power at an increasing rate from now creating exponentially more out of thin air at whim.
Regular price is $164. 🤪
French enameled cast iron is vastly superior in the casting and the enamel to Chinese. Ask folks who bake bread. The Staub especially seals in moisture better. It has a higher working temperature. Also it is lighter yet heats more evenly. It can easily last a lifetime when cared for. The importance of these characteristics is relative to what is being prepared and the value in the eye of the user.
Cosmetic imperfections on Staub and L.C. in my experience have not affected performance. There may be a rub mark in the outside enamel or other cosmetic imperfection, possibly a a tiny chip on the edge. These are all hand finished. The cast iron must be sanded prior to enameling. If not sanded perfectly smooth then the imperfection is visible in the enamel.

Anyways, as long as the "imperfections" they're referring to aren't related to the interior enamel, this is a great deal.

I'd be surprised if any of these shipped with chipped enamel. As a word of caution to those buying 7 qt or larger, those oven lids have a high mass and can chip the edge when swinging and it hits something like the edge of the pot. I throw a towel over mine before placing the lid on in storage.

And those old enameled pots and pans from Mom or Grandma most likely have lead and/or cadmium that still surfaces from Chinese manufacturing.
