When the title says in bold, "Visual Imperfections," I have to accept that as fact.

Trying to research which Staub item and color is now made in China and which is still made in France is just too much effort... especially for seconds. On Amazon, if made in France, that is usually posted towards the top, while if made in China, that is typically not mentioned.... they know it matters to the consumer when paying a premium for presumed quality. We buy Lodge made in the USA and not the enameled Lodge that is also outsourced to China that is openly posted on their website.

Swilling is also made in China, but some are now made in Vietnam.
Staubs cast iron is made in France. Their ceramic dishes and such are made in China.
The 4qt is 99 like twice a year. This is ok at best?

Excellent deal. Would be all over this if I didn't already have more than enough Le Creuset stuff...

Is there a difference between a cocotte and a dutch oven What is it? We got a cast iron, enameled 7qt dutch oven for about $40. It's gorgeous and works perfectly (it came bright red, but now has a beautiful gradient that is darker at the bottom and not as bright at the top as it was before heating). It's very heavy and works perfectly. What's a cocotte, and why is that worth the difference?

That press is the only item in this listing that is actually made in France by Staub.... want the quality that name represents, they don't come at China prices and exactly why their products were outsourced.

Arguably, you do have a "problem paying for quality." .... most of us do because we may not realize we are like frogs in increasing hot water as our fiat currencies continuously devalue in purchasing power at an increasing rate from now creating exponentially more out of thin air at whim.
Wait are you saying the enamel is not made in France? The bottom clearly says made in France. Are you suggesting that they are lying?

I do cook a lot especially with cast iron, planning to buy a enameled cast iron these prices are good for the quality. But lets be real here that grill press for 59$ is absolute BS.

Regular price is $164. 🤪

Same thing. Staub calls their French Dutch Belgian Ovens cocottes.

French enameled cast iron is vastly superior in the casting and the enamel to Chinese. Ask folks who bake bread. The Staub especially seals in moisture better. It has a higher working temperature. Also it is lighter yet heats more evenly. It can easily last a lifetime when cared for. The importance of these characteristics is relative to what is being prepared and the value in the eye of the user.

Cosmetic imperfections on Staub and L.C. in my experience have not affected performance. There may be a rub mark in the outside enamel or other cosmetic imperfection, possibly a a tiny chip on the edge. These are all hand finished. The cast iron must be sanded prior to enameling. If not sanded perfectly smooth then the imperfection is visible in the enamel.

How the heck did you manage to twist "minor visual imperfections or a damaged box" into "chipped enamel coating"?

And I believe the Staub has the advantage in baking bread in that it's black enamel won't stain the way the LC's "sand" enamel might stain (we're just talking about bread here).

Anyways, as long as the "imperfections" they're referring to aren't related to the interior enamel, this is a great deal.

That is a very helpful (and on-topic) reply. I do bake bread (haven't tried the no-knead in the dutch oven yet, though). I have some homework ahead of me- thanks to you!

You're welcome! What size do you use for bread baking? Oval or round? I'm interested in learning how to bake sour dough.

I'd be surprised if any of these shipped with chipped enamel. As a word of caution to those buying 7 qt or larger, those oven lids have a high mass and can chip the edge when swinging and it hits something like the edge of the pot. I throw a towel over mine before placing the lid on in storage.

Don't order from zwilling unless you don't care when you receive the item. I ordered from a similar sale on Black Friday last year and it didn't get to me until I filed a dispute in January

Same here. I have no problem paying for quality, or for items purchased that are made to higher standards in countries that pay their workers a livable wage. But that press at $60 bucks….oof.
60 bucks for a piece of flat iron block is BS, no matter whatever brand it carries. Pretty much the same for those louis vuitton pots.

==============

And those old enameled pots and pans from Mom or Grandma most likely have lead and/or cadmium that still surfaces from Chinese manufacturing.
Is this at levels that are toxic or just typical background concentrations that we experience from a range of products? How commonplace is this cookware your describe and please let us know the make/model of this cookware the chinese have duped our moms and grandmas into poisoning us with.

$60 for a flat hunk of iron with a handle is about 4x too expensive, no matter where it's made. This is a piece of metal, not a microprocessor; france isn't going to make a better one than china or mexico.
Just quoting you to piss off the Karen's who think their french (we surrender) Staub cast iron is special.
