Definitely not true for everyone. Comcast charged me a monthly fee to use their modem.

Edit: For relevance to the post: I have the MB8600, the 8611's 1Gb little brother, and it's been rock-solid here. Definitely a great deal!
You have a lot wrong here. 1) Oftentimes ISP providers provide gateways in lieu of modems. 2) gateways will usually have a monthly cost to rent from the ISP. 3) The ISP gateway will generally not have a 2.5 gbps Ethernet port.
I second this. Yes Comcrap used to charge me 10$ every month and I bought my own modem to avoid it.

I thought you meant $130 before coupon so i was about to try to price match. lol. I got it a few days ago for $150-20 and then had a $15 coupon for allowing them to send me texts and then I got 15% off a staples gift card with discover cash back.

I was hoping this was that they dropped it to $130 to get me another $20!

You're ISP already provides a cable modem for free not sure why anyone would need a cable modem?? only thing you need is your own router so you're not charged a monthly fee from you're isp.

I have spectrum and they don't charge cable modem rental, but, the modem they provide is cheap. I get over 200 down from test speeds, but something tells me my modem isn't as stable it should be. Considering b getting this.

If you look at your bill, most likely they won't charge a rental fee for the first year. Then it will be at least $10 a month. Last time I saw a spectrum bill I think they were charging $12.5 or $15 a month for the rental
