LOL, sorry to burst your bubble:

from Klipsch forum and tech support:

"Power consumption is less than a LED nightlight. They must remain on when not in use because they go into idle after 15 minutes." https://community.klipsch.com/ind...s-powered/

No power off switch, no stand by mode and the sub draw 16w of electricity. No thanks.

There must be some serious inventory liquidation going on since these have been on sale most of the year via major retailers and the prices are getting lower and lower.

Its still live on Amazon and Costco. For Amazon, you need to add it to cart and bring it all the way to checkout. If you don't have prime, and don't want to pay shipping don't forget to select the free option.

About the hum sound: I read some article saying there's a potential electricity leak or something that causes the hum. When I hooked this up next to all my other computer wires, there was a pretty loud hum. So I move the subwoofer to the other side, and connect it to a different outlet away from everything, its been quiet ever since! These are great speakers!

Bought these when they were $90 and they are worth every penny. They are loud and crisp and the sub does it's job. There is some mild feedback but if you complain about these speakers at this price, you're living on a dif planet

I loved mine but had to return it after a couple weeks. There was some slight humming sound that never went away. Sound quality was fantastic
Were the speakers defective since it had a humming sound?

Really tempted by this even though I have perfectly working 2.1 old school (pre-Creative Labs takeover) Cambridge Soundworks from the 90's that have been in daily use since and still going strong. The Klipsch Promedia is what I told myself I would replace the Soundworks with should they break, still waiting 20 yrs later.

This system does a good amount of both, providing a very well balanced take to bass (hence the THX certification). I can't really turn my system's bass up above 30% without them complaining.

Bought this couple weeks ago from Amazon $80 nothing comes close to this 2.1 setup for the price. Ordered 3 more from Costco, $70 is just to good to pass up these.

The bass isn't gonna hit like a 10+ inch sub but it's not bad at all for the size, perfect for a computer in a normal size room or even a TV sound bar replacement.
Is the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speakers better than all 2.1 channel soundbars that have a MSRP under $200?

These compare well with Logitech Z-62x. I compared both and both sound great to an average non-audiophile. At higher volumes, I felt the Klipsch high end seemed noticeably sharper (harsher?). Klipsch pros are that it has two 3.5mm analog audio jacks (1 male, 1 female), a conveniently detachable volume control pod, slightly smaller sub-woofer, less expensive, and it looks a bit sleeker.
Do these Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speakers have a sound profile that overemphasizes the mid-treble; which, makes sibilants like S and T sounds seem piercing or bright?

This overemphasis of mid-treble commonly occurs in Klipsch soundbars according to Rtings:

Sweet, in for a pair. I bought a set back in 2015. Had the 2yr protection plan and got them replaced at BestBuy with the bluetooth set. Have always thought my older set sounded a little better.

These are are great sounding. I had them probably 20 years ago. Glad they are still being made.

+1 for the outlet switch idea. For under ten bucks you can get ones you can turn on/off from your phone. We use them on Christmas lights, patio lights, noise machines, aquarium lighting…. You can add a remote on/off to almost anything, and it's superior to having to go hit the switch anyway
Constantly turning them off/on greatly reduces life span. These are meant to stay on 24/7. With the high power consumption I returned mine.

Measuring with kill-a-watt, my Klipsch drew 9.6W. I returned it due to the annoying humming from the sub.
I did some researching last time this sale came up (which is often) and sub humming noise was a really common complaint. I don't know if there's a high % of defective units or it's just a design flaw. No power switch was the other major complaint. I saw some people used a smart plug to power it off but that seems like a dumb design flaw.

I passed but the speaker quality is supposed to be pretty much unmatched for this price (buying new).

I read they did some design changes a number of years back and most people said the new units sounded worse, a few said they sounded better, but the consensus seems to be the design of the electronics is worse which may be why there seems to be a higher number of issues on new units.

I need new speakers for my pc but I'm wary of the reviews. Lot of users are reporting constant humming, static or popping when turning the volume knobs, speakers or woofer failing in a very short time period. Most of the reviews say Klipsch support is very poor. Seems like the quality is nowhere near what it is was years ago. I'm wondering if I should buy these or go the bookshelf speakers + DAC route.

I'm still only on my second set of these Klipsch 2.1ch speakers after nearly 20 years and I have yet to come across any other set that can consistently output the same quality sound at high volume levels. I've abused the heck out of mine over the years and they are extremely hard to blow. After long periods at very high volumes they will get a little hot but they still very rarely start to distort, especially if you are listening to higher quality audio (.flac, .wav, etc.). I recommend these to anyone looking for computer speakers in the sub $200-$150 range. I may have to grab another pair myself before they stop making these at this point!
