LOL, sorry to burst your bubble:

from Klipsch forum and tech support:

"Power consumption is less than a LED nightlight. They must remain on when not in use because they go into idle after 15 minutes." https://community.klipsch.com/ind...s-powered/
No power off switch, no stand by mode and the sub draw 16w of electricity. No thanks.
There must be some serious inventory liquidation going on since these have been on sale most of the year via major retailers and the prices are getting lower and lower.

I need new speakers for my pc but I'm wary of the reviews. Lot of users are reporting constant humming, static or popping when turning the volume knobs, speakers or woofer failing in a very short time period. Most of the reviews say Klipsch support is very poor. Seems like the quality is nowhere near what it is was years ago. I'm wondering if I should buy these or go the bookshelf speakers + DAC route.
Audiovox bought Klipsch back in 2011. There was a hardware revision of these speakers post acquisition and they seem to be the ones that have gotten the complaints while the older stuff were praised highly.

When Cambridge Soundworks was bought by Creative back in 1997, their stuff went downhill soon after. I'm not even sure they're still around, haven't heard any news about CS in years.

Not that uncommon for it to happen as the new owners try to cash in on the brand history while at the same time attempt to reduce costs.

This must be the 5th or so time I've seen these in the last 6 months for this price (walmart had them on clearance if you wanted to play the brickseek game) and I keep thinking I should grab a pair for the garage home gym. Got our 20 year old mid range $ home theater 5.1 set in there now but figure these might sound better with all the hype on how good they sound. If not they could go into the guest room for the TV set up i guess. Either case I'd use a smart or dumb switch to turn them off when not in use, wonder how that is going to mess up their life span as mentioned in an above post.

I remedied that with a smart outlet.

Bought this about a month ago, for $89.99 I'm pretty sure
Can I get the difference refunded?
If Costco, just take it to store and return it, buy new one.
If Amazon, just try to do online return, if it lets you, then order a new one. Alternatively you can chat with Amazon representative and try to get price adjustment.

I've used these in the bedroom hooked up to an Echo dot forever, takes care of the need for Bluetooth connectivity.

If you have hum issues; drop the volume lower til it's gone, and manage the loudness from the plugged in device (in my case, the echo dot). Took care of the hum for me, still gets way too loud, and sounds freaking fantastic.

That's interesting, on other posts I've heard revisions to the always on power that moved away from the switch on the sub, but can't confirm personally as that is my version from 10-15yrs. It worked flawlessly until the past few years the sub blew out. Agree with others there is a mild hum on the sub (amp is there) and the connection to the speakers is so finicky that has to be adjusted and not moved otherwise sound gets cut off or low pitch. It's an old style clip with the exposed leads rather than a 3.5mm jack.

Why buy a well-respected, sought after brand just to ruin it? Why not maintain the same level of quality, or try to make it even better, and keep making money? If you cheap out on quality the brand's reputation will suffer and people will stop buying your product. I don't understand this type of thinking.

These speakers are not part of "Electronics" 90 day return.

They are part of Costco's "Forever" return policy.

Electronics: Televisions, Projectors, Major Appliances, Computers, Touchscreen Tablets, Smart Watches, Cameras, Aerial Cameras (drones), Camcorders, MP3 players and Cellular Phones.
Almost everything is part of that forever return policy if you don't abuse it or the associates helping you! Smilie

It doesn't matter you are eating your competition and will profit either way. Look at Dell and Alienware. I wish I had more examples, but it's par for the course typically.

Pretty sure these acquisitions aren't done with the sole intent on ruining products/brands, it's just what ends up happening as the new owner will want to merge or cut employees and streamline or cut production costs. Sometimes it goes well and the product is kept close to what the old company's standards but in most cases it's not a good sign when a beloved product/company is bought.

Ultimate Ears was a company vary focused on audiophile gear but ever since the Logitech acquisition in 2008, that focus doesn't seem as narrow. They've been steered towards more of a mainstream consumer arena, basically Logitech's core audience. I can't really blame them, they're a business after all but I'm just watching yet another brand get diluted into a shadow of its former self.

I know this suggestion is in a way different price bracket, but I bought the S2000Pro Edifiers last year and they have been amazing. I suggest waiting for the S2000MKIII [amazon.com] to go on sale (when/if they ever do). It's the whole package, digital dac, amp, bass, treble, wired and bluetooth. I paid $327 on sale last September for the S2000Pro. It's just a whole lot of value dollar for dollar. Only downside is no bass speaker out (a lot of people complain about this), but seriously.. they are wonderful.

Junior audiophile here. You can't beat these at retail, let alone at $70. They are excellent. Keep the speaker covers off and adjust the highs via EQ and they're going to sound better than almost anything else you've heard.

Apple is probably one of the most famous examples. When Steve Jobs was ousted in the mid 80's from the company he helped build, the new leadership took Apple in a very different direction. Apple was almost bankrupt by the late 90's.
