LOL, sorry to burst your bubble:

from Klipsch forum and tech support:

No power off switch, no stand by mode and the sub draw 16w of electricity. No thanks.

There must be some serious inventory liquidation going on since these have been on sale most of the year via major retailers and the prices are getting lower and lower.

Why does it say in the description you can turn them off with a twist of a knob? Everyone says no way to turn them off.

Pretty sure these acquisitions aren't done with the sole intent on ruining products/brands, it's just what ends up happening as the new owner will want to merge or cut employees and streamline or cut production costs. Sometimes it goes well and the product is kept close to what the old company's standards but in most cases it's not a good sign when a beloved product/company is bought.

Ultimate Ears was a company vary focused on audiophile gear but ever since the Logitech acquisition in 2008, that focus doesn't seem as narrow. They've been steered towards more of a mainstream consumer arena, basically Logitech's core audience. I can't really blame them, they're a business after all but I'm just watching yet another brand get diluted into a shadow of its former self.
I didn't mean they were intentionally trying to ruin it, that's just what always happens when they try to cut costs. We can all see it coming a mile away so it appears like they should have to which makes it look intentional.

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered a pair. I'm fully prepared to be disappointed and return it but hopefully I won't get a lemon. I wish I had a Costco membership though. I'd feel much better with their forever warranty since one of the things I'm very worried about with these speakers is longevity.

The longevity part is the odd one for me, its odd that they could mess that up that badly. Speakers are one of those things that can last a very long time and it doesn't take something incredibly engineered and built.

One of these items I continue to be close to getting only to be scared off by some of the negative reviews. I've heard them several times and they do indeed sound fantastic for the price but I hate buying something that has some potentially significant annoyances. The hum in the sub in particular seems to suggest there is some power delivery issue with this system. Almost makes you wonder if there is no on off switch bc there is a grounding issue that would otherwise jolt the system each time the power is turned back on.

I'm in the same boat, every time these things go on sale, I want to replace my old but perfectly working speakers. But I end up not pulling the trigger after discovering why I didn't buy the last time.

if jolting the system with each power on is damaging, that would explain the negative about longevity. users are doing it anyways (for various reasons) instead of just leaving it on 24/7, causing their unit to fail quicker, in years instead of decades. with a 1 yr warranty and it mostly happening outside of that period, I guess whatever flaw is causing it won't be taken serious enough for a redesign.

I suffered with the ProMedia 2.0 volume knob for years because the speakers sound so good (when they work). Based on the reviews, it sounds like they're still using the same awful attenuators/pots.

The volume knob starts off by causing a scratchy sound through the speakers before beginning to disconnect, effectively disabling the other speaker, then eventually degrades further, causing loss of signal to both.

Lubricating the knob helps, but only for a few months. Buyer beware.

Got mine on the last deal. Solid speaker set for the price. The no power off is a detractor but not enough to pass on the deal.

Have had these forever and they're great but looking forward to the G560s i just ordered.

Anyone have good look hooking these up to a Samsung LCD TV? I don't think it has a 3.5mm port, just AV in and Optical.
My Samsung LED, circa 2010, only has a line out and can't adjust the volume via remote. Just tried it tonight with a 3.5mm to a JBL speaker.

Still good at Costco, but if you're looking at Amazon they take the rest off in cart.

Thanks for the deal! I ordered the speakers, and also used the Discover Card cash back rewards for another 30% off up to $30. It took the 30% off and THEN took off the discount on the speakers.

Speakers: $104.48
Extra Savings: -$34.49
Discover 30% off: -$30.00
Total before tax: $39.99

Repped!

Using the Citi Costco card gives an extra 1 year warranty or only applies to TV purchases?

My ancient 4.1 set (now 2.1 and a rebuilt amp after a lightning strike near the house) still going strong.

Ya, power switch... it turns on and off automatically but if 10w draw is a problem, get a surge pro with a switch on it.

I spent more than this to repair my amp after the surge damage 10 years ago. Seriously considering buying another set as a spare... but I have too much extra junk already in my spare closet.

Like others have mentioned, the sudden price drops make me wonder what is up. These things were $149-199 forever. Now this year they are on sale everywhere. New model coming out maybe? This design is 20+ years old so maybe it's time for a refresh with bluetooth? I don't know anything, just thinking out loud
There was a bluetooth model available but for a short time. I think it is currently EOL though. Bluetooth for these speakers is a crime.

Do these Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speakers have a sound profile that overemphasizes the mid-treble; which, makes sibilants like S and T sounds seem piercing or bright?

This overemphasis of mid-treble commonly occurs in Klipsch soundbars according to Rtings:
https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/t...0271/20270 [rtings.com]
The trebles are drowned by the subwoofer for Klipsch Promedia 2.1's.
