LOL, sorry to burst your bubble:

from Klipsch forum and tech support:

No power off switch, no stand by mode and the sub draw 16w of electricity. No thanks.

There must be some serious inventory liquidation going on since these have been on sale most of the year via major retailers and the prices are getting lower and lower.

I still have my 2 of 1st gen from BBY working.

Does the one from Costco have a power-on switch on the satellite? Just want to make sure I can turn them off.

I assume this is 2nd gen?

I would choose this every time over any Logitech speaker set. Even if you're thinking about buying the more expensive Logitech Z625 don't do it. I would just buy the Klipsch as the only weakness of the Klipsch is clarity of vocals as it gets drowned out by the booming bass.

Instead of buying any higher priced Logitech's I would just drop "Tang Band W3-881SJ 3" Cast Frame Neodymium Driver" drivers into the satellites and your vocals would supremely improve. You'd be wondering why you haven't done it sooner. Dropping in Tang Bands into the satellites is only worth it when you can get the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's for this kind of price. The sound is difficult to beat at this price with Tang Bands dropped into the satellites.
I have an extra pair of Klipsch R-41M Bookshelf Speakers. I'm thinking of replacing the satellites with the R-41M's and combine with the ProMedia 2.1 subwoofer/amp. Would this be a better alternative than modifying the satellites with the Tang Bands?

Bought this couple weeks ago from Amazon $80 nothing comes close to this 2.1 setup for the price. Ordered 3 more from Costco, $70 is just to good to pass up these.

The bass isn't gonna hit like a 10+ inch sub but it's not bad at all for the size, perfect for a computer in a normal size room or even a TV sound bar replacement.
At 35% volume 50% sub it bumps my whole house from the basement. Overkill really.

The Amazon page says the first date available for the product was April 16, 2002.

I was in middle school.

Why buy a well-respected, sought after brand just to ruin it? Why not maintain the same level of quality, or try to make it even better, and keep making money? If you cheap out on quality the brand's reputation will suffer and people will stop buying your product. I don't understand this type of thinking.
To remove competition. Mergers, consolidations, and acquisitions have lead to lower competition, fewer choices, and employees no where else to find jobs. Mean while executives are busy cutting costs, because where is the customers going to go and where is the employees going to go?

I want to add a conspiracy. Do you suppose if the 1% wealthy community were allowed to meet every year at Davos, Switzerland, would they pay someone with computer internet skills, intelligence telecommunications skills, media broadcasting skills and legal skills to only benefit themselves in the world? Monopoly by corporations was deemed bad for society by our forefathers. But what about people who are bigger in wealth than corporations and are colluding with one another.
Audiovox, who owns Klipsch, could have removed the rest of the competition with....Klipsch. Looking at the list of brand names that Audiovox owns the only other one for the PC speaker market I barely recognize is Advent which I don't think was ever good. Klipsch is their best brand. None of Audiovox's other brands are going to compete with Logitech or Creative. So I don't see how devaluing Klipsch is going to help their goal of a speaker monopoly which isn't gonna happen anyway when there's a decent amount of good choice in the speaker market if you also factor in non-PC speakers.

Yes absolutely there are people that greedy and evil to only do things to benefit themselves.

Why not just upgrade to an SVS sub-woofer? I don't see the point of picking this up just for the sub-woofer.

Creative pretty much ran Cambridge Soundworks into the ground after they acquired them in the late 90's. 10 yrs later, CS was just a shell of what it once was as Creative has now basically phased out the CS brand and just used their own and those computer speakers are nothing special. Logitech never really had anything that could compete with the old CS or Klipsch. Logitech just had average passible speakers whose brand name carried them, people were familiar with Logitech as the company who made computer accessories and that is enough for the average Joe.

As far as this level of "computer" speakers at this price, there really is no other option or competition and since there's no competition, Audiovox never bothered to really improve these Klipsch speakers and make them more modern, they're basically what they were 20 yrs ago but with costs cuts in some of their components.

Finally hooked mine up and boy am I glad I did. These sound darn good for $70. They are well balanced if you keep the subwoofer at the mark on the controller. Very good outpout, and a lot if desired. The speakers are pretty big so on a smaller desk they could be an issue (it is for me).

I have mine hooked up to a chromecast audio so no feedback as computer speakers and potential feedback. Mine are clean with no hum or any weird sounds. 100% would buy again.

Typically the first component to fail in these is the pod volume control - it gets scratchy.or cuts in and out. Replacements are available. Some prefer the older models with the on-off switch. Earlier units were prone to failure because of excessive heat. The new models do not get nearly as warm. There is a technician who repairs the older units, adds beefed up components and a cooling fan and sells them on the bay. Too much for me but I'm sure he sells all he lists.

if any of you are looking to use this with a tv that has a fixed optical output, I bought this:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...UTF8&psc=1
Works great with the Klipsch. I set the volume at the halfway mark on the klipsch and adjust as needed from the included remote.

I never use the pod volume to adjust my volume after it has been set. I just use the volume control on my computer, my phone, or my DAP. I put the volume to a comfortable level that I know won't blow my ears out. Then I just don't touch the pod volume control anymore. I did the same thing with the bass, I know how much bass I like and I crank the control to the 9 o'clock position and leave it there (same for the volume). Then adjust accordingly on my PC, phone, or my DAP.

I do it this way because my satellite sits up high and I want to use a step stool every time I want to adjust my volume. Both have been 9 o'clock position forever.

Not sure if this has been discussed. I went into one Costco and saw that they had one speaker set left, but there was a big hole on the side if the box. Didn't look like it damaged the actual speaker, the styrofoam cover around the sub wasn't ripped. Just got it anyways. Then I was visiting another store another day, and saw that they had stock, so just grabbed it and was planning on returning the one with the hole.

When I got both together, I noticed that the one that has a hole in the box is a lot heavier, maybe like 5 pounds heavier. Are there different versions of this speaker set?
