LOL, sorry to burst your bubble:

from Klipsch forum and tech support:

No power off switch, no stand by mode and the sub draw 16w of electricity. No thanks.

There must be some serious inventory liquidation going on since these have been on sale most of the year via major retailers and the prices are getting lower and lower.

Not sure if this has been discussed. I went into one Costco and saw that they had one speaker set left, but there was a big hole on the side if the box. Didn't look like it damaged the actual speaker, the styrofoam cover around the sub wasn't ripped. Just got it anyways. Then I was visiting another store another day, and saw that they had stock, so just grabbed it and was planning on returning the one with the hole.

When I got both together, I noticed that the one that has a hole in the box is a lot heavier, maybe like 5 pounds heavier. Are there different versions of this speaker set?
Short answer yes. Longer answer yes they have cheaped out and went with a digital amp in newer revisions. If you are lucky then you got one of the older revisions that also has detachable speaker wires and a power switch.

Perhaps the heavy one with the hole in the box is a return item? Someone bought a new set and returned the old one that came with the heavy amp in it's place.

they haven't had the power switch in more than a decade.

I can confirm that there are different versions for these speakers. The box graphics look the same on both, but you can check the UPC sticker on the bottom left of the box. It should have 4 bar codes, and the second from the top of the 2 boxes are different. The version with the amp has a code of 10674152029J445. The version that is most likely digital since it is lighter has a code of 10674152035J504.

I noticed that the version with the amp takes a bit to warm up before it got to it's full power. When testing it, I was a little disappointed with the amp version since it didn't really have the power that I was expecting from the satellite speakers. I was checking to see if I had the connections seated properly and noticed that the back of the sub was getting warm. When I tested it again, I got the power that I was expecting. The digital version was good to go right after plugging it in.

Other differences for those who are curious is that the sub wires from the satellites are stiffer and the positive wire has a brighter red color on the digital version. The back plate is also different on the sub woofers. It is just under 8 inches across on the amp version and just under 9 inches across for the digital version.

I couldn't really tell a difference from sound between the 2 versions at full power, but I'm not really an audiophile, but both versions sound good to me.

Klipsch has never made a Promedia 2.1 system with a power on/off switch, ever. Stop spreading false information.

Found the Klipsch employee spreading revisionist history.

See attached.

Mine from Costco has 8 inches back plate on Subwoofer and the speaker wire one is black and the other is thin red line on black.
The subwoofer is around 15-Lb. Do you know my speaker is amp version or digital version?

That should be the one with the amp. The back plate is the best way to tell if you already threw out the box.

Yes, just open the satellite (might have nylon padding inside the satellite). Remove the screws securing the stock driver and unplug the audio cable. Then secure the Tang Band back with the stock screws and plug in the cables and you get vastly improved vocals that don't get drowned by the sub-woofer. They sounded so good my brother-in-law wanted to buy them off me. I told him no, hahaha! No way I'm selling these babies.

If you're modifier savvy enough you can even mod the satellites to use 3.5mm connections so you can easily unplug the satellites audio cable instead of having the default hard cable. That's what I did.

I used these along with some speaker wires, wire stripper, and a soldering iron to make my own custom connection to the satellites:
MJS-CM Stereo 3.5mm Female Jack Chassis Mount Audio Connector
NYS 231 REAN 3.5mm Nickel Stereo Mini Plug
NYS226BG 2-Pole Mono 3.5mm Plug (Black)

For reference, if your sub-woofer ever blows out in the future you could replace it with the "Tang Band W6-1139SI 6-1/2" Subwoofer" as it just drops in but it's not worth replacing the stock subwoofer on a brand new Klipsch 2.1 Promedia speakers because it's not cost efficient. And also the box is not ported for the Tang Band subwoofer for the low end. For $89 currently, it's not a good bang for your buck to upgrade the subwoofer.
FWIW, the newest ones changed the design in the satellites a bit. They still "drop in" except the studs that the nuts secured onto are shorter and there is a cutout that is only shaped for the stock drivers. The result being the tang bands will not secure with the bolts but will only sit snugly on the four studs due to the tension of the driver mounting holes not having quite the same alignment as the stock driver holes.

I swapped out with tang bands on a newer set bought recently and an older set bought in 2018.

btw i got this awhile back, less than a year ago maybe

the left speaker developed static noise that is present even when the audio jack is unplugged from the source

now there's static all the time as long as the speaker is on even if the volume is all the way down

garbage speakers imo
