Good price for 10feet! I use these for my videogame systems. Hdmi through the receiver to the TV has a little bit of delay that isn't conducive to games that need quick reflexes like shooters. Hdmi from my consoles go directly to the TV and audio goes to the receiver via optical.

Question: I have an Insignia soundbar that I have hooked up via optical. It just constantly goes out of sync. Would a better cable fix this?

Got one, at this price it's cheaper than buying one from China and waiting 3 months. I've checked few months ago when I needed one

While some of these optical cables look nice and offer gold plated connection (which doesn't make any kind of difference with this type of cable as it's Optical, meaning light, NOT an electrical signal), These kind of cables are not practical for a professional installer! If you install TVs on the wall or soundbars on the wall, you will find that the optical cables with a bulky or fancy looking connector or thicker cable with less flexibility will make your installation a lot more difficult or you may not have the clearances to have the tv or soundbar against the wall without damaging the cable. That being said, I've learned to always get the monoprice optical cables that are super thin in comparison to this cable and have a super small profile end TOS connector! Makes for a much easier install and won't make a difference in sound quality as again, it's light passing through!

This! However, at $2.99, can't complain, thanks OP.

Sounds like you need to troubleshoot the problem as to why it goes out of sync and by that do you mean looses connection or lip sync or ?? It would be a good idea to have a spare optical cable to swap to see if that fixes it or if the problem is with the soundbar itself or the signal source, etc

There is no difference in sound quality between (functional) Toslink cables, like you said, literally it's a light blinking signaling a 1 or a 0 so the cost, gold plated connector, thickness, etc will have no bearing on the delivered quality since it's a digital (0 or 1) output. The only problems are lower quality cables with cheap diodes that are too long to function well consistently or if the cable gets a hard kink in it that disrupts the light. Even then, the delivered sound isn't 'degraded' it's glitchy, it's not a scratched vinyl it's a scratched CD kinda of degradation where the data is either there or not there or is incomplete.

On that note however, it doesn't have the bandwidth for as many channels as HDMI, since it's literally only 1 fiber optic line, the most it can do is compressed 5.1 and if you're going to spring for a 5.1 might as well upgrade or future proof and go with HDMI to get uncompressed 5.1 or upgrade down the line to 7.1

https://www.bluecinetech.co.uk/hd...s-optical/

Toslink is also one way so it doesn't have the lipsync correction that HDMI-ARC does.

Toslink is basically for casual use where CD quality sound is good enough, if you're going beyond that, then you have to step up to hdmi for 7.1 home theatre setups for example.
