Propane is such the rip off in general, yet I somewhat depend on it. Even at home delivery levels of 200+ gallons a fill. . .it's currently running $2.50 a "gallon" even though I live 80 miles away from one of the two main Salt mine storage facilities for propane which is also the benchmark for same, and the king of holding the glutton of supply for the US.
Meanwhile spot prices are up to 94 cents for same, and that's just spot prices. . .most suppliers pay much less with contracts, and as propane doesn't move much in a salt mine, it cost them less than 1 cent a month to have it hang out while they get around to picking up said propane bought at bulk for less if they can't pick up all of it at once. So for my area, propane companies have purchased propane for say 70 cents, drive it all of 80 miles, and will only fill your home tank for $2.50 if you buy 200+ gallons or more at a time. Great business model I guess, but it made me buy an old but usable propane truck off of ebay. Send it down to Mt. B. once a month to pickup LPG for me and a few neighbors. Cut our related energy costs by 60% in the end after expenses of truck. Would still rather have piped natural gas though. . .
