I believe this is the machine that a prominent Youtube hardware reviewer said this was the worse pre-built he's ever seen.

Check out the Gamers Nexus review of this machine. Buyer beware.

Yes, definitely decent. I have this one too. Just spend extra $40 on CPU cooler and exhaust fan to keep temp. Low.
Do a clean windows install to get rid of all the pre-installed stuff.

Would this be a decent set up for my 11 year old to start gaming? He plus on Xbox now but wants to move to PC.

I know some hate on the Dell proprietary set up and the lower pw but with the 1660ti and 16gig of memory this seems decent. Especially because I can knock another $120 off with the AMEX offer.

Thanks! One more question if you don't mind. Do you think it's worth buying and sitting on until the holidays? Or will there be better deals? With the gpu shortages not likely to resolve soon I'm a bit unsure if I should just wait or grab this deal and sit on it.

If you can get $120 off with amex, go for it. This is a good deal, given the market. 1660 cost $400 alone if you can get one.

Would probably wait until the 11th gen XPS goes back on sale for 650. Better processor and similar gpu in the 1660 super. This has 8gb more ram for $80 more and a worse processor.

Eh this isn't the best price for this performance. This can be had for around $620-650. A better deal will probably come later. Only bonus to this is it has 16gb ram, and an 8gb stick can be had pretty cheap

Previous deal for $630 is 1660 Super, not 1660 Ti.

I hopped on a G5 Desktop deal earlier this year, 500W chassis, i3-10100 processor, 5800XT video card, 8GB RAM. The fan roared all the time until I got a second 8GB stick of RAM and now it does pretty well. I do mostly light duty gaming and RPGs. I am happy.

Anyway, machine/case build is decent. The i5 is a faster processor. That GTX1660 is all you need for great 1080p gaming so don't go higher resolution. I forget how much RAM this model ships with and can't scroll up in mobile, just make sure he has at least 16GB. It should make a really good gaming PC for adults on a budget, an 11 year old will be really happy.

I just feel like it's marked up for the Amex offer. Idk how much dell paid for their components so I can't say if it's a good deal or not. I will say if it had a ryzen 5500 5600 I'd probably be all over it. Seems like a ok deal if you have the Amex offer.

I have never seen a configuration for an i5-10400F, GTX 1660 Ti (or GTX 1660 Super), 16GB RAM, and 512 SSD lower than $700. Where did you see a similar configuration for $630 to $650?
