MDF and particle board are not the same. MDF is higher end than particle board.

Yes, these are similar quality. MDF is an engineered wood product made by grinding wood fibers super fine, almost like flour, and then bonding them together with glue. MDF is a lit higher quality than the cheap particle board that's used in a lot of Ikea furniture.

Smaller adults and kids can sit on these easily, but if you're a big ol' boy weighing in at over 250lbs I wouldn't suggest it. I have two smaller versions of this ottoman and we've had people around 220lbs sit on them and they've stayed nice and solid feeling.

As with any furniture item I highly suggest buying items like this through Walmart instead of Amazon for easier returns.

Is MDF different then particleboard? I don't suppose it uses any less chemical glues?

MDF is particle board. They still may use urea formaldehyde glue as was common for many years though it is becoming less common. If you look at the OSHA limits and outgassing of MDF it is not really a problem. Feel free to make your own decision about it though.

I have had something like this (bought from Ross department store) with leather like cover on it and it's been so great (8 years now). Is this similar quality? What is MDF and particleboard? Is it made out of cardboard? Can you sit on it?

We have 2 of these since 6 months back when they were on here... Just terrific leg rests and for us, one holds all of our newborn clothes in it, the other is loaded with board games. (10 big board games)

We definitely recommend these. We have the black leather looking ones and so far no damage to the material or them.

They're about as wide as 2 cushions on a normal sized loveseat, as I have my legs resting on one right now and I'm sitting on my loveseat

These are absolutely fantastic for decent-looking, low-priced storage. I keep all of my camping equipment hidden away in one, camera gear in a second, and blankets in a third. Can't beat it for the price. Very sturdy, too. I've had them for 2 years, sit on them all the time (190lbs), and they still look new.

Looks very similar to the one I purchased from Songmics and the quality of that one is not bad for its price. Does what it's intended so I can't complain. In for one !
