Picked up 3 for $85 with Red Card. My sub expires next summer. Happy to extend. This service is wonderful.

Edit: Yo! If you turn off recurring billing before redeeming, you get an extra month if you "turn it on" while redeeming. I bought 3 cards, turned off recurring billing each time and ended up getting 4 months PER card.
Best Buy and Target had the 3 month GPU for $22.99 (50% off) last black friday
This is the best deal in gaming, and it's only gonna get better with the 30+ Xbox exclusives coming down the pipe. Most are day 1 game pass additions. If you're on the fence, stock up now, because the value of gamepass is only going to increase. You also get 20% discount to buy games you like from ms if you're a gp member.. plus you get cloud gaming {mobile} free, game progress syncs with pc , so you don't have multiple instances and saves across different platforms.

Getting GPU for $5/mo is simple IF your GPU subscription is expired. Just add 12-month Gold codes to your account after your GPU has expired. Then sign up for GPU again and your Gold will convert 1:1 to GPU.

If you've already had GPU before, you will have to buy 1 month of GPU for $14.99 to convert your Gold. The $1 promo is only for brand new GPU users. So if you have 2 years worth of Gold codes, you'll end up with 25 months of GPU for $15 plus the price of 2 1-year Gold cards ($120 at Walmart or whatever - they aren't sold online anymore).

Pro tip: When you add a Gold code to your xbox account, you should get an offer for 1 free month if you activate auto billing. Say yes to that, then immediately go to your subscriptions and disable the auto-billing before adding more Gold codes. You can get a free month for each code that way. So you should be able to get 12 + 1 + 12 + 1 = 26 months of Gold for $120, then convert it to 26 months of GPU by paying $15 for another 1 month of GPU. ($135 / 27 = $5/mo)

Microsoft Points. Pay zero dollars.
You can redeem 9,300 points for a $10 Microsoft or Xbox gift card. 1 month of GPU is 12,000 points. That means GPU costs $12.90 worth of points (12000/9300 x $10 = $12.90).

If you buy anything from Microsoft like games or hardware, it's a much better deal to spend your points on gift cards for those things, and pay cash for discounted GPU codes like this SlickDeal.

Thanks. I forgot about the 1 month trick. It only worked once for me. I turned reoccurring off but never got the extra month on successive cards. I know this used to work because I used it to get 4 free months back when I did the 1:1 conversion from Gold. Anyone else get the free month to work multiple times?
This also worked on my first redemption only. Weird. Do I need to wait a certain amount of time?

Does this work if you currently have gpu? So like, I'm currently using the 3 month for $1. If I bought a gold 12 month code, would it stack my gpu or do I have to add it, then add a month of gpu?

It will work AFTER your current GPU subscription expires. You can buy the codes now, but don't apply them until the GPU expires.

I'm a little confused here, so are people buying xbox live gold cards and not this deal here ($30 GPU for 3 months)? My GPU JUST expired yesterday and I was just going to get the 3 months deal here for $30 and call it a day. Is that not the right way to do this?

Do you have to activate this right away? Can I hold on to the code and wait to activate it until Halo Infinite comes out?

If your GPU is expired, getting Gold and converting to GPU should work. I've done it 3 times on my main acct so far. My latest expiration was on 05/26/21. I just bought 3 years of gold last night and converted to 3 years GPU.

After you have Gold added to your account if you goto https://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/gold/upgrade and click the upgrade it will say $14.99 a month. Before you click OK to upgrade/convert it should show your next billing date for whatever date Gold would have expired. After you click confirm it will charge you $14.99 once and convert you gold to GPU 1:1.

If you don't want to take a chance on buying multiple gold cards, get one and add it to your account then go to the upgrade link and click upgrade to see if it shows the next billing date when gold expires. If it does just add more gold to your account before you upgrade.

Do you guys think soon Microsoft is just going to make it $15 a month with none of these side things to find it cheaper? Seems like they are grooming us all to get hooked on it then make us pay full price.

If you don't use Microsoft rewards yet to get GPU you should! Essentially 2 minutes of your day to get Gpu for free once Microsoft classifies you as level 2.
Exactly! I'm running a 434 day daily set streak and have gotten 216,907 lifetime points. I use MS Rewards to pay for my GPU. I just used points to get 2 - 3 month deals from Target cashing out points for Target gift cards. That will get me back up to the max 3 years you can setup your GPU for.

Thanks, that worked.

To anyone else whose Gamepass expired, it's still cheaper to buy Gold and pay the $14.99 to convert back over to Gamepass even if you buy the gold at retail $59.99.

I just did 59.99 x 3 + 14.99 = $194.96 for 3 years of ultimate or $5.42 a month.
You got all 3 years at Gpu? They didn't shorten it?

💯 yes. I used MS Points, linked BING, have the App. Every search is points, every day you spend like 5 min on the Bing Rewards page doing some clicking and bam hundreds of point; DAILY.
I take it a step further and have my Rewards set to Auto Redeem a $10 Xbox card every month. It gives me a discount for the Auto Redeem.
