2 amps is plenty for trickle charging, but if you need to charge dead battery expect it to take 12 to 24 hours. Divide that time accordingly for a 4 or 6 amp charger. If you'll be be dealing with completely dead batteries often, for example if you have a boat in storage, you should get at least a 10 amp charger.
