Adobe Acrobat Replacement

17 10 July 3, 2021 at 09:30 AM
Hello all,

I had Adobe Acrobat full version from my school, but after graduating, I lost my access. I am looking for a good replacement. The main function that I need is a program where I can effectively edit PDFs. Are there any good freeware apps that can do this for Windows? Thank you.

There are free online editors for this, such as Sedja [sejda.com]. YMMV but doubts you'll find a freeware desktop version to download.

In general, it's better to edit the source document. Acrobat alternatives generally aren't as capable as Acrobat.

Depends a bit on what kind of edits you want to make and what kind of computer (mac/pc).

Are you hoping to add some notes and annotations? Fill forms? or make more substantive edits?

Foxit PDF Reader has a typewriter function that lets you type on top of a pdf, useful for non-fillable forms. You can open PDFs in MS Word and One Note. If you're on a Mac, Preview and Skim are handy for annotating.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I need to mainly edit and fill in forms.

Edit your hosts file
Google search, I had this pop-up a few days ago when I deleted Kaspersky Total.

I use Xodo [xodo.com]on my android tablet for all sorts of things. They do have an online version, but I haven't tried it very much - a quick try and it seems to have some decent features (especially for free). Looks like you can download as a chrome app or install as a chrome extension. They have iPad versions as well, but I have never tried those.

For me, Xodo has been great for hand annotating pdf's in the field.

I too am looking for a thick client alternative. In terms of thin clients, there is also https://pdfcandy.com/

EDIT: I just noticed the same developer also has a thick client: https://icecreamapps.com/PDF-Editor/. Has anyone tried it?
EDIT2: Never mind - looks like the free version includes a watermark Frown: https://icecreamapps.com/PDF-Editor/upgrade.html

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. I assume you mean this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-...3379c2f63a? Can anybody speak to how well that works? The article mentions, "The converted document might not have a perfect page-to-page correspondence with the original. For example, lines and pages may break at different locations."

It works very well for documents and OK for forms for the most part I use it all the time at work. They tend to have fillable forms that for some reason are blocked from being filled out!

Stop wasting your time on free / cheap programs, we use Nitro Pro, it's about $145.00 and works perfectly.
