Got these for about $140 or $150 about 18 months ago IIRC. The headband feels cheap and plasticy, but…

Comfortable and good balanced sound. Can't go wrong at this price point.

Thank you. Bought mine three weeks ago for $150 and I'm going to try to get the difference refunded.

Update: Drop refunded me the price difference with an email request.

I have both and I would say the X2 are better for gaming/movies as they have more bass, soundstage is great, and you can slap a v-moda boompro mic and you're good to go.

The 58X are better for music imo as they are more detailed and have amazing mids, so it's preference, really. I always switch out between the 2 headphones.

upvotes on slickdeals? LOL, not instagram or twitter?

Upvotes on slickdels? Are you being serious?

Let me ask you. Do you understand 3-blob problem with the 598/6xx/560? Do you even know what a 3-blob is?
What part of "The best $500 or less audiophile and gaming headphones" is meaningless don't you understand? What part of comparing a closed headphone that needs an amp to an open headphone that doesn't need an amp is meaningless don't you understand? What part of no one agrees with you here or otherwise don't you understand?

Yeah, for gaming, the DT880 is really good. It's soundstage isn't great but it's imaging, both L/R and F/B, is insanely good. If you are going to say best for both music and gaming under $500, give me a Hifiman Sundara, an AKG K712 Pro, or a Shure 1840 any day over the DT880 since each have a better balance of imaging and soundstage and just sound better in general. The DT880 is probably overall the best at $200, but there is just too much competition once you double that budget.
K712 is legit. I love its signature sound. The K712 sounds great with clarity from mid to highs but so thin for the low frequencies and the lower highs around 5k needs a bit tweaking. Not sure about Sundara and I don't trust the reviews enough to get a pair due to my past experience with Hifiman brand. Never tried the Shure1840 because Shure is well known for the IEMs but not sure about their headphones, maybe I'll pickup a pair to see.

Which one is a closed headphone you're talking about?

Upvotes on slickdeals? LOL, I should repeat that more often to get you to understand.

You probably don't even know that most people on slickdeals aren't very much into audiophile. They are mostly looking at others and their opinions, and going with someone else ideas/opinions instead of buying and trying for themselves. They mostly focus on getting a deal. If you really want to know more about technical aspects of sound quality and real opinions, you wouldn't be hanging around on slickdeals, that's for sure.

So how do you like those headphones for gaming? 598/6xx/560?

Brain glitch on closed headphone so disregard. Anyway, you keep saying this is not a place for audiophile and then try to score audiophile points, so I don't see any point in continuing. Another one trying to have it both ways to make themselves feel better.

I think getting the price refunded could be a bit of a hassle because there are no returns at Massdrop... So we have no leverage
Free returns for 30 days. They refunded me the difference with a simple email. Very prompt service.

I did this mod but used a a cutout from a cheap dust mask filter inner liner (almost like a coffee filter) with double sided tape. Most amazing headphone now. Without the mod, the headphones are just "okay" imo. I never tried felt but i'm sure it's more or less very similar.
Wait what? Link to how to do this?

I see a few people saying that the clamping pressure is a lot with these headphones. Are they comfortable still with glasses?
I only wear glasses and I use these daily. the first week they do need some break in but now I can use them for a whole 8 hour workday without any pain.

How do these compare to the Sony xm4's in terms of sound quality for music and movies.
Different use cases. If you add Sony and ANC, you need to add a couple $100 to the price.

These are audiophile approved as a good, gateway set, while the xm4's are more consumer friendly.

Depends but most will like these better. The Beyer treble peaks can hurt.

Upgrade or side grade. The X2 are more consumer friendly and more v-shaped. People have both in their collection.

This headphone is nothing special until you mod it with felt mod and omg sound is a lot cleaner and more natural neutral sound, the bass is way more cleaner....I do have a dac but you don't need it for this headphone. I am just trying to help those who are trying the get the best sound out of their headphone.
