Got these for about $140 or $150 about 18 months ago IIRC. The headband feels cheap and plasticy, but…

Comfortable and good balanced sound. Can't go wrong at this price point.

Thank you. Bought mine three weeks ago for $150 and I'm going to try to get the difference refunded.

Update: Drop refunded me the price difference with an email request.

I have both and I would say the X2 are better for gaming/movies as they have more bass, soundstage is great, and you can slap a v-moda boompro mic and you're good to go.

The 58X are better for music imo as they are more detailed and have amazing mids, so it's preference, really. I always switch out between the 2 headphones.

Seems like a lot of people are on the fence between these and the Philips SHP9500. I personally find the HD58X to sound better as the Phillips are a little harsh to me with the treble. I have had the HD58X for a year and at first the clamping was a little strong, but you can easily expand it full length and carefully bend the metal band. I recently tried the furniture felt mod, it opens the sound up quite a bit and sounds more detail for anyone on the fence.

How much you get those Philips for and how you liking them so far (music, gaming, movies/tv)? Thanks, Erlich

Do you primarily use them for a specific activity or do you mean in general, cause I don't think I've ever heard Philips > 58x (except maybe for gaming)? For music, most people say they're not even in the same league.

In regards to the Philips headphones, do you mean for all-around use? I've read the SHP9500 kill it in terms of value, comfort, and gaming w/ the V-Moda Boom mic, but for overall use the Fidelio are worth the upgrade cause of how much better they sound for media such as music and movies due to the increased bass and how "fun" they are. It's difficult to imagine the lack of bass and increased treble would really make them a great all-arounder for those who don't have like half a dozen options and just want a single pair of cans to use, then again I've never tried them. My concern is comfort, which is by far the most important single aspect for me because after a couple of hours, every single pair of headphones I've tried hurt my ears or make them sweat (usually both), except for the Bose QC-35, plus I also wear glasses.

It's unbelievable how badly Philips dropped the ball on both the SHP9600 AND Fidelio X3, especially considering how much praise their predecessors have received over the years. If I'd known, I woulda bought them when they were still frequently being sold by Amazon.com as the seller @ $50 and $100, respectively, but I'm frugal and stubborn so don't wanna overpay now. Was set on the 58x until I just found out it's a freaking 2.5mm, and I don't want a modmic. Think I may just end up picking the PC37X on BF since they're supposedly more comfortable and there's no way to justify > 50% increase in price for the slightly improved bass of the PC38X, even tho I might end up paying more to get them a year later unless they have the same $20 off (altho not sure if that was a Thanksgiving deal or they just dropped the new user discount to $10). First world problems...
I don't know who told you the 58X has a 2.5mm, but they don't.

I use the Philips for some music, but mostly calls and gaming. The wide stage helps for positioning and they don't clamp on my head to cause discomfort after half an hour.

The 58xs sound great for movies with explosions, but everything is a little more... Narrow? Condensed? I sold them a while ago because they didn't get any use.

I also kind of hate the Y cable vs standard 3.5 on the left side. minor detail but it adds up
Thanks for the help. Decided to pass on this altho I got an alert today for the PC38X @ Drop for $139 if anyone is interested. I can't stomach spending nearly 50% more for a slight upgrade which primarily consists of improved bass and the PC37X is on sale as well for $95 but unless either of the two Philips go back to their $50 and $100 prices, I'll just wait for the PC37X deal for $70-$80 (like it was last year for BF) cause I'm a cheap bastard.

You're right. I either mixed up 3.5in for 3.5mm in this OP or read the 2nd comment [reddit.com]w/o seeing that the person were wrong.

However, it still doesn't work w/ the V-Moda BoomPro (or at least conveniently) since both ear cups have wires attached and I don't wanna use a modmic, so my point still stands.

I agree ... when your wire tied to a PC or TV, physical motion is minimal.
Is their a practical solution to reduce the tension these HP exert?

When was that? I am trying out a Philips 9600 that I found on SD around Prime Day. Would love to hear review and feedback from people who own both the Sennheiser HD 599 and Philips 9600
