I picked these up off of an SD listing about a year ago. They're not bad but honestly, I wouldn't recommend them. First, the bluetooth cable is kind of a joke. It's like technology from 5 years ago. The charge you get with it doesn't last very long and the controls on it are a PITA to use. I'd guess anyone trying that cable out uses it once or twice and then it winds up back in the storage case. The sound of the phones is good, but there are plenty of IEM's available now that are comparable at better prices and with much, much better build quality. IMO, these W40's should be going for around $125-150 by now at best.
Isn't it the case that these come with a "Version 1" Bluetooth cable, and there's a "Version 2" cable out?
From what I understand the W series is being replaced by the X series so this is a Closeout sale on a last year's model.
Also, what are the "plenty of IEMs available now" with "much, much better build quality"? Some examples would be welcome.

Looks like Westone is no more. It's now Westone Audio and the logo also changed to WA. Maybe Lucid audio is ready to revamp the product line. They do have a W80V3 out right now with no bluetooth cable.

Unless Westone changed something since I bought this, it comes with the early model bluetooth cable which, as I mentioned, is IMO junk. I mean really kinda worthless. The more expensive models came with an updated version bluetooth cable -- I've not used that one so I can't comment on whether or not its an improvement. I literally never even bother to use the one that came with mine, I found it to be a joke considering the price range of this product. In fact, I found it to be so poor that I decided I wouldn't purchase a Westone product again.
As for other suggestions, look through this thread, there are a few different ones mentioned. It really depends on your personal tastes and what you intend to use it for. I know what would be good for my purposes, but I have no clue what would work for your personal interests. G/L.
In my local market, there is a group of doctors that specialize in speech and hearing. When you go to them for some custom molded IEMs, Westone is the company they order them from. They make your mold in their office, send it to Westone, and order you up the IEMs of your choice. I always thought they were the "standard", the "medical grade" equipment, so to speak. I have the very non-custom UM1 model (lower end version than these), and they are my go-to for weekly 3-4 hour band rehearsals. No others I've tried remain comfortable for extended periods. These are tempting.
I had the UM1s many years ago. They were my first budget "audiophile" purchase ever, and I loved them. Eventually the left side stopped working and the casing came unglued.
The thing I remember most is they were by far the most comfortable IEMs I've ever used. I've owned many since (Shure, Blon, Tin Audio, Pixel Buds, Galaxy Buds), and I always keep wishing they'd be half as comfortable.
The only reason I haven't tried another pair of Westones is that, reportedly, you get much better sound from other brands.
May steer clear of Adorama! They USED to be great to buy from. I just bought these and paid for 2 day shipping. They immediately emailed and said that my payment didn't go through, even though it did. They then escalated me to two different departments and said they couldn't meet the 2-day shipping deadline that I paid extra for. After reading all their recent negative reviews about this happening to other customers, I canceled my order before it was too late.

I've had several purchases at Adorama. No issues here.
Something to consider, Westone is moving to 3rd gen for this product line. The 3rd gen for the W80's just appeared. Even so, other than slimming the profile a mm or two, I can't see how the gen 3 is any different than the gen 2 looking at the specs. Gen 2 is already plenty small. Anyone else know why a gen 3 would be an upgrade?
Anyone have experience with this brand, comparing to KZ better models or Audeze in ears?
I have Isine 20s and w60s. With the Cypher cable the Isines sound very full but without Cypher a little thin sounding. The W60s with a Ballanced cable sound very resolving and full. Without Ballanced cable thinner and not as full sounding. The W60s sound better then the Audezes but either cabled right will make you happy.
