If you need Consumer Reports I would recommend checking your local library. My library card gets me access to Consumer Reports online for free.

If you select gift subscription, is there a chance you don't get auto renewed/impossible to cancel?

Not sure if free digital issue of CR is still alive. https://cdn.mercurymagazines.com/...index.html
You will receive a link to download your digital issue of Consumer Reports from Zinio.com to the email
address you provided during your order. Or you can simply go to https://www.zinio.com and access your
new issue. If you are new to ZINIO, you will receive a welcome email with instructions on setting up a
ZINIO account.

If you do NOT want to be auto-renewed...do NOT select "DiscountLock". You can opt out of it during the check out process. If you order, and missed it or you're not sure if the subscription you purchased is enrolled, you can check by logging into your account at DiscountMags and you can cancel it from there.

I used to like CR years ago when they did exhaustive product reviews of practically every appliance and electronics, as well as cars, Now it's mostly a "lifestyle" magazine discussing and comparing trendy items that appeal to what's in fashion.
This is absolutely true. And the look of the magazine from then (the 80's) to now has paralleled that thought.
Only in CR can a vehicle go from a "worst buy", and 9 months to a year later become a "best buy". Same for the best buy to worst buy. (not counting new vehicle releases)

To the poster that said he "fell out of their demographic".
The demographic of "the best bang for the buck". Fits the average SDer demo, I think.
Trendy and fashionable falls into the category of those willing to pay $3500 + for a stove for a family of four. Same for the $5500 + refrigerators, and 2 k for an outdoor grill?

I also feel like they are proffering a lot of editorial and emotional opinion based as facts.
