"Those U.S. customers or businesses that did not purchase their Hard Disk drives directly from TAEC must return the Hard Disk drives to the place of purchase. They are not eligible for warranty support in the U.S."

I had a 4TB Toshiba HDD that failed under warranty last year. After I made a claim I was promised a VISA gift card as a replacement. I mailed the drive to them but two months later my warranty claim was still in limbo. I had to contact them several times after that and over another two months went by before I finally got a check from them. Total it took over four months plus to revolve my warranty claim...

Needless to say I probably won't buy a Toshiba HDD in the near future.

512e means the drive natively does reads and writes in 4096 byte chunks called sectors or blocks but it's backward compatible with 512 byte addressing from the OS through firmware. Almost all drives have moved to this new block standard.
The old standard called simply 512n was 512 bytes. To the end user, these disks perform basically the same since the addressing is handled by the OS but it allows for higher performance and storage density.
4kn drives can't work with 512 byte addressing and will cause problems. Many applications are hard coded that a sector is 512 bytes so older applications and OS won't be compatible

they're spec'ed at 4W idle so that's less than a 4TB WD Black!

About $21/TB. Not the best deal, but considering current pricing, it may be the best we can find.

Sadly not on my NAS's compatibility list.

Prefer not to store on a medium that's likely to corrupt and certainly fail in a few years.
That would be great if they weren't price gouging sdd still. 4tb sad should have been $95 by now and 4tb M2 should be $250 but nope nothing has changed in 5yrs

The newegg site shows the warranty is only one year. Either that information is a mistake or Toshiba lacks confidence in the product. I would expect a drive like that to have a warranty of at least five years.

I was wondering this too, because the 16TB says 5 years? I hope it's 5 years?

Oh and Chia is dumb and I hope it goes to $0.00001 Smilie

I hope you're joking. I have hard drives from 2007 which are still running. Drives typically fail from improper use.

Specs seem great, MBTF, unrecoverable read rate, and load/unload matches WD Gold. Warranty is weird.
