Had one for awhile now. If you need a new alarm clock for $45 then this is ok. If not it's pretty useless. Screen size is a killer. Need to be right in top of it to see anything.

I got one for my birthday and I LOVE it. It is anything but useless. Mine is in my kitchen. I use it for recipes, shopping list, watch shows, make calls, etc. I can understand the argument that "my phone does all of that." Because it can. But honestly, not touching my phone (or any device) while cooking makes it all worth it.

Got one for $20 with a Ring and wish I would have saved the $20. Screen size is smaller than most phones and the microphone completely sucks for giving voice commands. You have to face the screen and yell very loudly, unlike the Echo dots which you can just talk normally from across the room.

Amazon really needs put a bullet in this...I have the Show 8 and have been really happy with it. The 5 is just too small, slow and unresponsive.

Echo is pretty bad but at least it's got a clock. Echo auto is the worst Alexa line imho

Yup, I've had the 8 since 2018 and now I also have a 5 for the bedroom. I can see my front yard clearly through the ring app. I don't know what people expect out of electronics, but every thread is "I thought it could do more" . This ain't a Tex Avery cartoon, it's not gonna cook you breakfast.

I grabbed a 5 for $26.00 at a local store a few weeks ago but haven't messed with it yet. Can it be set to show time and outside temperature at all times.

Great device for someone who has a disability. My dad has dementia and doesn't know how to answer calls on a phone anymore. FaceTime is nearly impossible these days. But with an echo show I can use the drop-in feature (yes I agree it's a creepy feature), and I can pop in and video chat without him having to touch a thing. I do agree a 5 inch would be too small. We have the 8

The display on the 5 is just a tad too small.

The perfect Echo devices is still the Show 8 if they would introduce a simple software update to allow the clock to go full screen & stay there. I still haven't the slightest idea why they don't at least allow it to be enabled via a setting even if has to be enabled & not the default. It's stupid.

FYI If your a glasses wearer like myself it is hard to see the time when you wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom since it's pretty small (blurry vision).

My wife has 20/20 so she loves it. One cool feature we like is asking it every morning how's the weather going to be today and it's always accurate.

I have only ever had one directly in front of my keyboard under my monitor. I like it for the ability to quickly see who is on my Ring cameras. And I like that I can play music on it and see the lyrics as I listen (I am no audiophile).

Granted, I've only ever had it right in front of me, but it's a pretty good use-case.

I had the 5 for a couple years, but like others have said, it's really just too small for anything other than using as an alarm clock.

This past prime day, I traded in the 5 and did the 20% off upgrade option to the 8, and the screen is way more usable compared to the 5.

I don't have the same complaints about ads and whatnot, since you can disable a lot of the promotional screens. I also set it up to show photos saved to Amazon photos, so it's a decent photo frame, though not as easy to use as Google nest/hub is to use with Google photos. It is a bit bigger compared to the regular nest hub though, so that's nice.

It's also nice getting alerts about Amazon deliveries, so your stuff isn't just sitting on your porch without you knowing.

A lot of nice to haves, but most of the functionality can also be found on the nest hub which also acts as a Chromecast. Unless you really don't like Google, or are already heavily invested into the Amazon eco system, I think the Google nest hub is the device to get.

I have replaced all Echo dots with either 5" or 8" Echo Shows. Always keep the camera shutter closed. Why not get all 8"? Because of the foot print. If you are going to put on a side table that shares space with a lamp, water bottle, medicines (you get the idea) you may not be able to put the 8". But if your side tables (in bedroom or living room), have space, then go for 8". Even if you turn down the volume completely, you can still see the weather, click to turn on/off lights, etc.

Screen is small, but works perfectly fine for me with video/voice calls to family and friends. Sometimes its just easier to say alexa call so and so especially if my phone is in another room. I also use it for the hourly weather forcast for the day. I too have also replaced all my dots with either echo show 5s or 8s in each room.
