Appreciate the heads up, it's just about time to stock up so I can continue to avoid paying taxes on AT&T Prepaid.
Just an FYI to fellow AT&T Prepaid peeps, $50 Prepaid cards added to your balance expire after 90 days, so be careful not to load up more than you'll spend in 3 months of paying your bill. You can buy a single $100 card to extend your balance expiration date by 365 days to get around this.
Yes. If you don't have Redcard and you live in one of those states where Kroeger doesn't Tax you, Kroeger may be the better deal. You may need to watch out for those 911 fees too.
If you want the 1 year expiration on AT&T, you have to buy the $100 card. So advantage Kroeger.
Target never taxes me nor do they charge me e-911 fees. So a $50 card will be $42.75 with Redcard.
If I'm a Verizon monthly customer can I buy these in bulk to essentially save 10% on my plan? I don't think I'm a prepaid as I have a family plan and pay for our phones via contract. Thanks!!!
likely a known fact, paying with the verizon prepaid cards, cuts out all of the taxes & misc charges (at least here it's that way). it's just a flat fee when paying with the cards. very nice in addition to no tax on these cards and then the $5 off each $50 too.
I see that they are $5 off a purchase of $50 or more. Putting three (3) $50-cards in the cart only gets you a $5 discount (ignoring RedCard discount). Ditto with higher-value cards. Can you buy several $50-cards, one at a time (in separate, complete transactions), and get a $5 discount in each transaction?
just buy them individually, then you get the $5 off $50 for each one. stick with the $50's to preserve the best discount.
Now I'm even more confused, since I looked at reviews on Target for that item and they say things like:
"When you get a card, it says the expiration date, but it only kicks in once it's used for a refill. So I usually buy say 2-3 cards, and only use 1 at a time to refill - that way they won't expire (unless you go past the date of activation). "
"The card itself has no expiration date before its activation, fund availability only start counting once you used the refill code."
But your understanding is that if I bought 4 $50 refills, I can load all 4 into my account at once and it will not expire? Or if I choose to wait to refill one at a time as needed, do the cards expire after 90 days if not loaded into the account?
You don't need to wait. The 90 days is a moving window as long as your account is active, i.e., charged monthly. I usually only load a few months in advance just because life happens, you might want to charge carriers, etc. The deals on Target are pretty regular, no need to stock up massive amounts of cards and tie up funds - varies with your monthly bill ofc.
To reassure yourself, look at the balance expiration date on your account after each monthly charge to visualize the moving 90 days.
So wait.. Around Xmas my year plan expires so if I were to buy $300 in cards now and apply them to my account they'd expire before renewal? Or is it 90 days without activation
The way AT&T Prepaid balances work is a little weird. Here's a scenario: I have 90 bucks in my balance right now with an expiration date of 11/23/21. I bought a $50 card and added it to my balance today. They now say I have a balance of $140 with the same expiration date of 11/23/21. If my expiration date had been 9/23 instead of 11/23, it would've changed it to 11/2/21 (90 days from today). If I bought a $100 card and added it, my balance would have an expiration date of 8/2/22 (365 days from today).
The bullet point is, if your current balance expiration date is longer than 90 days away, adding a bunch of $50 cards right now will not extend your expiration date. Don't put in more than your bill will use up before the expiration date ... UNLESS you're going to add more funds before said expiration date comes up. If you're within 90 days of that date when you add another $50 card, it pushes the date back to 90 days from the day you add more funds. If you add a $100 card, it pushes the date to 365 days from the day you add it.
Basically, as long as you keep adding some funds before that expiration date to keep pushing it back, you're fine. I throw a $100 card at mine sporadically to push the date back a whole year so I don't have to remember to keep feeding my balance.

Good summary. The bullet point is probably what entangles some buyers. I've always waited until a few days before my balance expry date to add my refills, so everything was simple. I can now see how topping off early can be confusing.
I never understood why people buy so far/so much in advance when the deals always return. Sure, the 15% off at Kroger is now only 13% but the 2% difference is worth the tradeoff, imo.

Yeah, I hate the way they do this. If Target ever offers $10.00 off on a $100.00 pin I'm gonna be on it like a tick on a coon hound

Last night, I wanted extra data for my BYOP smartphone, so I bought five TracFone 1GB addon PINs from Target to get the $5 off $50 or more discount, using PayPal with Discover card as the payment method to get an additional 5% off. Redeemed one of them and got 180 in each bucket plus another 90 days service. Not a terrible deal, but I have a service date over 5 years in the future, and all I really need is the 1GB data, so 180mb doesn't cut it. A poster on another board reported redeeming a 60 minute card with a bonus code yielded unlimited minutes and texting, 1GB data, and 30 days service, but when I redeemed another of my PINs, I only got the 20 minute bonus that the code was supposed to yield.
Target's policy is strictly "no refunds" on prepaid cards. I haven't contacted them yet, but I expect to be sent to TracFone customer service hell, and the weather is too good for that now. Any ideas out there on proceeding?
I am also from NY
I just bought from Kroger and wasn't charged tax or extra fee, just paid $87 for $100 cricket card.
Received the card in a few minutes and redeemed without a problem.
I said it's YMMV, but when I tried to check out they certainly wanted tax + e911. So if you can get it, great but unfortunately in my county they charge tax.

100% FALSE! (Since when did you get into the fake news business??)
No taxes and fees for purchase through KROGER (if you live in NY) where the Cricket Wireless cards are 13% off not 10% as in this thread.

I have been caught with that once before, but I learned (the hard way) that the ATT prepaid cards/vcards do not expire. The timer on expiry only starts when you APPLY them to paygo and depend upon denomination. So you could keep the cards for years (unapplied) and until you apply the pin the timer does not start. You could also resell them if you need to, which is good.
How many $50 cards would target allow to purchase?
need to space a day a part? or can do 5 orders one after the other and still get $5 off?
personal experience this week appreciated!
I've ordered 6 within the last hour and 4 have came through within 5-10 minutes and been added to my account. I have a $300 a year plan that expires in about two weeks. The last two seem to be "stuck" processing. I'm using PayPal for 5% back on my Discover card.
Just checked PayPal and it shows 3 pending...weird... I'll give it some time before reaching out to customer service as it says "e-mail delivery within 4hr" on the Target checkout.
Edit: Those 2 orders show "pending" in PayPal. Target chat support said to wait 24hr. I may try my CC company.
Edit 2: Credit card company said they didn't flag anything as fraudulent. Just to give it some time. Said Target may have flagged it thinking someone hacked me.
Email just popped for the other 2 cards so to summarize it took 2hr for the last two to process.
