I remember when I went with my dad to buy our first VCR. It was in that range —about $600.
My mistake was that I was not following the curve of tech.
I bought that Mitsubishi in 1995 because someone I just met (friend of friend) had one.
It was literally like RIGHT BEFORE DVD players started making their presence. If I had known about DVDs, I would not have bought the archaic VHS tech.
Then, I made a similar but less costly mistake in buying BluRay discs with 4k around the corner. I am not replacing my BR collection as quick. Waiting for $5 4k or $10 8k movies first.
That is how the movie industry gets you.
- Replacing $80 VHS Blockbuster rentals eaten by the VCR. (My cousin worked at Blockbuster and told me that people would open the movies cassettes and swap out the tapes.)
- Replacing your physical movie collections every 5-10 years. VHS > DVD > BR > 4k > ...

For us, the $600 VCR was like in 1984, so it was appropriately-priced for the era.
I'm with you on incessant replacement of my movie collection. I even had LaserDisc and the ill-fated HD-DVD.
You guys are out here making Blockbuster jokes and this is literally a product to relax your sphincter! Literally! There's so much meat on that bone! Which is why you'd need this product (meaty bones)! You could have done a whole mashup thing even. Like, I don't know, "be kind to my behind", or something about "cumming attractions" or "new releases". I expected better of you internet strangers.
