Or you could order Quest cookies w/out the added sugar and carbs

The way I look at it, Yes. it may have 12 grams of sugar, but you're going to be eating cookies anyway so you might as well get the protein.
Usually when they say "plant-based protein" they're talking about soy, but I saw these actually use the superior pea protein. Definitely in.

My boyfriend pays about $2 in NYC for a pack of one of these so I scooped this only for him since he likes them.

How do these taste?
So far every "protein cookie" that I've tried has been kind of disappointing.

Part of the trick employed by the Quest cookie is the use of Stevia (artificial sweetener) so although I don't have a particular problem with this it isn't as if they're avoiding sweetness. Just taking a lower-calorie path to the same result (a sweet cookie).

This distinction will be different for everyone, but I definitely agree that for many getting 11g of sugar is going to be balanced by getting 13g of protein.

Good luck!

It's not an 'artificial sweetener' at all. It's a plant (an herb) that has a ton of healthful properties that just happens to be very sweet.
These are far from healthful - they contain high fructose corn syrup.

These things have high fructose corn syrup. Hard to believe any company still uses that crap! Sooooo much worse than sugar!

I think I can agree that the use of the term artificial may be loaded for some readers, so alternative sweetener may be preferred(?). My primary complaint here is that these days (thanks to the accelerated approval garnered for Coca-Cola's variety of stevia in the 2000s) plenty of low-calorie products don't clearly disclose the inclusion of stevia to offset any loss of sweetness while getting to tout their low sugar content (case in point: the Quest cookie touts "1g of Sugar" on the front label, but no real mention that they achieved this by adding Stevia until you hit the ingredients list).

So while I acknowledge your assertion that an HFC cookie isn't health food, I'd assert that just because a chemical is extracted from an herb doesn't give it a free pass. I wouldn't want anyone to imagine that industrial scale production for stevia is possible without a number of intervening steps involving what most people might commonly term chemicals (though essentially everything on the planet comes under that umbrella) or at the very least involves components in the refining process that would easily be accepted under the term artificial.

Truly, neither cookie is health food. But each cookie achieves their nutrition facts label through distinct enough means to warrant inspection on the part of any buyer. As this thread suggests, some users won't be fazed by a mass market cookie with HFC while others will want to avoid HFC at all costs. Similarly, some may be very excited by a stevia option in this high-protein cookie space while others may want to steer clear of stevia for their high-protein cookie. (I can't help but get a laugh about the idea of a multi-million dollar high-protein cookie category, and yet here we are!)

Good luck!
Jon
