Tips for longer usage:
1. Use PLASTIC/WOOD spatula
2. Remove leftover rice after your meal, add water to cover the bottom. Simply rinse and wipe the pot on the next day.
3. Never leave rice in the pot overnight
From my mother, proud owner of 1 Tiger rice cooker for more than 25 years
the "problem" is that when these Tiger or Zojirushi rice cookers are made in Japan, they frequently last 10, 15, or even 20 years.... if they don't break down, I have no excuse to buy another new one. I know someone who has a Zojirushi rice cooker that she bought way back in 1990 whey they were stationed in Japan. Still works just fine.(had dinner at her house a couple of months ago and it still made rice just fine)

it's not like a car that I can just park in a questionable neighborhood and leave the keys on the front seat
Here's the exact same model for those who prefer to pay double:

Warming to potential buyers... The lid of this model is NOT removable. Unlike most fuzzy logic rice cooker out on the market, the top vent usually can be taken out easily for cleaning. The inner lid rubber ring is also hard attached to the unit. This makes it very difficult to clean every day.
We purchased it, carefully reviewed the design, and decided to return it to the store.

I've read that Zojirushi is the only rice cooker to buy, anyone know how this one compares to it? I don't have room for another kitchen appliance, I don't have room for another kitchen appliance

Tiger and zojirushi are equivalent in quality. Tiger is a very popular brand in Japan.

The Korean cuckoo that Costco sells is also very good. I bought this one simply because I like having "made in Japan" on the front.

Just my 2c but I took my folk's Tiger rice cooker with me to college. I dinged up the coating too much over the years, and switched over to manually steaming rice in a pasta bowl inside a wok. Tastes just as good, and saved a lot of counter space. Don't really see why I would ever go back to a rice cooker. And we eat rice everyday.

I am still using my Mitsubishi rice cooker that I bought in 1990. Yes, it's been 31 years and it still works great.

Take this as you will, but I was just over at a friend's house and noticed he has a Tiger rice cooker. Because of this deal I asked him how he liked it as my current rice cooker is fine but old as I bought it in 1999 or 2000, so I'm worried it'll die one of these days.

Turns out it was maybe waste as he got his Tiger in 1998.

My current rice cooker is a National 5.5 cup and had been used for over 20 years. The inner pot coating is all scratched up and my wife just walked to me said our rice cooker is about time to replace it, funny that I am browsing this SD and said "here, prefect, costco Tiger is on sale", prefect timing and just ordered one.

How does this compare to the cheap $20 rice cookers. Is it worth the extra money?

If you use it 5-7 times a week, yes.

Great deal, we bought 2 las time, one for a wedding gift.

We have both Elephant (10 cups, MIJ from amazon for $130), and this Tiger at home, both great units.

Especially we use 1/2 White rice and another 1/2 Brown rice, come out perfect.
