I thought this company went under? I had their DVR probably 5 years ago when it only worked with Roku and it was pretty terrible. Wonder if they've made improvements?

Eh? No, they're still around.

I got my first one over 6 years ago. They have made apps for more platforms since then. Whether you like it or not will mostly depend on how you want to use it (and how well your antenna works for you). The typical Tablo DVR models are much better for time delayed watching than they are for watching live due to the way it works. However, they have HDMI variants [tablotv.com] (2- and 4-tuner [tablotv.com]) now that are better for watching live.

Good info. Im glad their service/hardware has improved and working for you. Ive been happy with plex and my decade old silicondust for some time now. The days of running tvheadend backend and pulling OTA guides are long past me. Plex works well for the limited amount of live tv i watch.

How much of a delay do you experience on the non-HDMI models? I'm interested in using this for watching sports.

Perfect timing for me. Getting tired of commercials on roku when watching news or ota programs.
Can the recordings on tabloid that's saved to external hdd be copied to a pc and viewed just using media players?

I am using HDHomeRun dual tuner, it works great with Plex, but it has to be connect to the router via hardwire. Does this have wifi? HDHomeRun mislead me when I bought it.

Im not sure there is a problem with your current setup. Or is it that you dont have a coax run near a a ca5/6 hardwire? The hdhomerun is connected to your router which i assume has wifi right? If u want to connect to it via a wifi device like your phone or a tv that doesnt have hardwire u should be able to find the device no problem on your network. Ive used this for a decade this way and can connect any wired/wireless device to it as long as they are on my network. With a plex server on a computer u can extend that out of your network if needed as well.

Yes, it has WiFi support, however, I recommend using wired connections when possible.

There are several third party utilities to do that. [tablotv.com] I use Tablo Ripper [github.com] to move recordings of dramas from my two Tablo DVRs to my Plex server. Also I often use MCEBuddy [mcebuddy2x.com] to remove commercial breaks from the recordings before adding them to Plex.

A few quick tests gave about a 5 second delay to tune and start streaming a channel from a web browser on Win10. My Roku (4630) took around 12 seconds. All of which are using wired connections. Non-HDMI Tablo DVRs always convert MPEG-2 to MP4 in real-time.

My antenna is in the attic and I don't have coax running down from the attic. So I put the HDHomeRun in the attic and connected it to the router through a pair of D-link powerline adapter. That works OK but I assume the powerline doesn't always give the best performance. Otherwise I like the HDHomeRun very much.
