Also, if you move the SIM to another phone it will 'break' the required service time. Some people say you can 'resume' the clock by moving it back, but others say it starts over at 0 again. I didn't want to risk it, so I left it in the iPhone and paid for 6 months total (basically this deal gives you six months prepaid service you switch to the $30 plan with only 2gb of data). Earlier deals would only make you pay $60 or $120, and you could use referrals to help lower future cost some.

From my experience, you don't have to activate the new phone. You can use the cricket sim in your current phone if it is compatible with Cricket and the credits stay with the number. As you have mentioned, the new iPhone SE will remain locked.
