All the research I've done indicates that if you buy "Top Tier" branded gasoline, that you don't really need fuel additives as they contain detergents that provide this benefit. However, these gas stations are often more expensive like Chevron, Texaco, Shell, etc. Racetracs, Kroger, Murphy, and other discounted gas stations of course don't have this branded additive and offer supposedly less concentrated solutions that automakers deem inadequate, but suitable enough to meet EPA requirements.
