Skil is owned by Chervon, a Chinese tool company. Used to be part of the Bosch/Siemens Group. Under Bosch it was a low end brand similar to Ryobi. However now, this is considered Chevron's mid/high tier brand which is supposed to compete with Milkwaukee (TTI) and Dewalt (Stanley Black and Decker).
Chervon makes Ego lawn tools so yes they make decent tools. They also make the Kobalt line for Lowes I believe

Key pluses:
1. JUMP charge rapid-charging feature.

While some may automatically go for Milwaukee Fuel at first, for the home user / lighter tool end of the spectrum, the Skils are very competitive.
Yes, not a Dewalt etc for all day very heavy construction work, but that's why there's high end makes.

Do the research and you'll find it to be among the better of the consumer-level tools, with features some others don't have (e.g. Led light on the multitool, easy blade changes and wide compatibility).

Anyways, the charger + battery or with tool are often cheaper on ebay than buying charger, battery, then tools separately.
