Anyone know if this can be good for electric scooters?
Is the loop small enough to lock the wheel so it wont slide thru?

Very much depends on your specific scooter. There's a million different models of them.

Not much protection. I wouldn't leave it for long. It's really easy to break or cut this lock.

Just about every lock, regardless of price, can be easily cut with manual cutters or small power tools. Most of these locks just act as deferents.

For my bikes I only use the kryptonite new york Fahgettaboutit.
18 mm so it's won't last to an angle grinder but is fairly resistant to bolt cutters.
short shackle so it' difficult to put a jack to spread it and it's locked on both sides.
It is definitely more expensive and heavier to carry than this.
I forgot my bike at the BART station for a whole weekend and it was still there monday morning.

For a cheaper bike left at school during the day it may be ok.

wouldnt really count on it. you have to send a photo of the broken lock - sometimes the thieves take it or toss it

The mid level Evolution is also impervious to bolt cutters due to the hardened steel as well.

Basically for anyone asking about the $5 cable lock on here, this would be a massive upgrade. Still can be defeated, but it's going to take the thief longer and hopefully he goes for someone else's bike instead.

The battery-powered angle grinder has really changed the game. I know that any of these bike lock threads, the Lock Picking Lawyer of YouTube fame inevitably comes up... but honestly, has anyone EVER seen a video or even a report of bike thieves actually *picking* the lock as opposed to using bolt cutters, a grinder, hammer, etc to break through the lock or chain? I know that there were some round-keyed locks that could be picked with the cap of a BIC pen, but leaving those aside, I think lock picking by criminals is fairly rare. Anyone have anything to dispute that?

All of the above said, I think you need to look at an equation that includes the value of your bike + the level of lock you will be using vs the crime rate in the area where you plan to lock up your bike.

I found this information in an NPR article related to updated statistics on bike thefts:
Quote :
At the end of 2020, Bike Index estimates that the total number of bikes marked stolen was 96,583, an approximately 24% increase from the data of 2019. The increase could be attributed to new riders entering the market.

Some cities across the country are also seeing spikes in bicycle thefts.
In Seattle, Wash., there was a 54% increase in reported bicycle thefts. Denver, Colo., has seen around 26% increase in bike theft between 2019-2020, according to the Denver Police Department. As for Boston, Mass., it has climbed from 790 in 2019 to 1015 in the last year, a 28% increase. New York City has similarly seen a nearly 30% spike from March to Sept. 21 of last year when compared to the same period in 2019, according to The New York Times.

Meanwhile, San Francisco has seen a slight decrease in bike theft in 2020, according to the city's police department. The Chicago Police Department reported a 3% decrease during the year as well.
