He was just saying that was the lowest the game has been.

It's very easy to switch classes to try out different combat styles. This is good, but there are two primitive types of damage, melee(includes archery) and magic. If you do some kind of hybrid character where sometimes you level as a melee and sometimes as a magic user, you'll probably find your character is unable to damage anything in the late game because neither your magic nor melee stats are high enough to break through monster armor.
If you pick the same type of damage for the whole game this won't be an issue but there's a ton of nuance as well.
One nuance is that if you want to be the best "Magic Archer" in the game, you have to level as as sorcerer until late game, then switch to magic archer once your character is powerful enough because most magic archer attacks do Magic damage. This is because as sorcerer you gain something like 10 magic power per level, but only something like 2 per level as magic archer. Late game enemies have a metric ton of resists.
Another is that if you want to just beat on stuff with giant swords, you're far better off leveling as an assassin for awhile since they gain the best melee stats. It's a really weird system but the game is worth it, it has a strange atmosphere and style that i've never seen in any other game before.

The only merit is the challenge and combat is pretty good. Combat is not as good as monster hunter world, but you can tell they borrowed battle mechanics from each other.
