For those with the AMEX offer (when you spend $99.99, you get $25 back), you can sign up for the yearly plan for $109.99 but it isn't obvious how to do that.

Here's the trick to do that. First sign up for the $7.49 monthly plan. Then once you have that setup, click on your name in the top right corner, go to Subscriptions > Manage Subscriptions > Switch Plans > Select Yearly > Select the offer for $109.99

On the next page to confirm, it's going to say:
"You will be charged $102.5 today, which is the price difference between plans plus applicable taxes. Please note if you're currently participating in a promotional offer, it will not carry over to your new plan."

In this way, you can get the $40 discount, which is not quite as much as $45 saved on the 6 monthly payments, but at least you will also get $25 back from AMEX. The net cost would be $84.99 for 12 months which ends up averaging around $7.0825/month.
Existing is my guess. Maybe could cancel current plan and subscribe to this one? Edit, you probably need to create a new acct if that doesn't work. Another member confirmed, canceling and resigning up didn't work.
At this price, willing to give it a try. With Amazon, Showtime, Paramount+ and Netflix, you would think one would never run out of things to watch. Not always the case. I had Starz for a couple of months and after it expired, I missed it. Sometimes I think all of this a la carte stuff is getting out of control. Maybe cable wasn't so bad after all.

Feeling kind of burned by HBO. Prime cancelled my HBO on 9/15. And HBO didn't make this offer until 9/17, after I already signed up for $14.99 per month. So I setup a new account with my other email address and cancelled the other account. Not exactly easy to cancel, but I think I got it done. My old account will still be active until the month runs out and my new account, actually the email I used for HBONow a couple of year ago, got the half price deal.

Then maybe YouTube tv is for you, $65 probably close to the subs you have
Youtube TV and Hulu/Disney/ESPN are an option. For me, I like the Amazon Prime UI better than the others on my PC. On the TV, I prefer the Roku app. Using Amazon on both makes a little easier across PC, tv and phones/tablet. I wish you could bundle any and all of the a la carte options with discounts for each one you add.

I hear you, but Cable is still garbage. Remember all those ads they consistently shove down your throat? And you have to pay?

This "a la carte" is the way.

I just paid full price for a no-ad yearly plan.

Has anyone tried contacting HBO
about how to switch to the half-price offer?

I switched to a yearly ad-free plan literally hours before I got the email about the $109.99 offer. Contacted chat, which was useless. Called support and they took down my info and opened a ticket. Apparently the front line reps have no ability in their system to do a price adjustment, which seems crazy to me. Fingers crossed.

That's the last time I buy a year of that. I thought I was getting a deal at 125$ with Amex. I will wait next time they barely put anything on their besides the wb movies.

That was the first question that came to mind, and your super detailed and helpful response was right on top. Thanks a ton!
