Here's a review of this with the i7 processor.

I know that people down vote Newegg, but personally I've had good experience with CS.

Remember that the i7-1185 version went for $799 here. That said this is an Intel reference design and gives the processors plenty of power.

Yes, too bad they're OOS on the i7 because I think this coupon would have worked and brought it to $720. I'd been watching both models.
Seems like MSI doesn't gimp/throttle the processor, is that what you mean by Intel reference design? Some reviews say this laptop runs very hot under load ,but they're all reviews with i7. A plus and a minus, depending. Wonder if this i5 will run cooler under normal use, wonder if it will run cooler under full load. I just don't have a total grasp of TDP effects and I find conflicting information.

My view on things...

It runs hot under stress testing like running Prime 95. Under normal use intel giving it generous power limits lets it be all that it can within the limits of design. If you don't like it running hot then don't use it for those tasks. I want to choose whether I want all the performance or not. Now you could say the cooling solution should let it run all out without heat or throttling, but that is a rare beast and definitely not an ultrabook.

This chip has an 80EU Xe graphics core and just lower clocks than the 1165 and 1185. It's a decent setup. But you have to decide what you really need. Do you need the single core performance of intel because you don't push multi-core workloads?

It also had a 1tb drive vs this 512.
